On top of that just put 33 eggs into lock down and 2 are already piping so I hope things will be ok. Black Copper Marans and Olive Eggers cant wait to see what the olive eggers look like have had pretty silver ones and black ones.
Than on top of that DH :lovesaid I could have more chicks so Im getting Blue Wheaten Marans and Wheaten Marnans and a few more Ameraucana eggs so I can get a roo that I need.
My girl friend thinks Im crazy, 12 goat kids upstairs and now the chicks down stairs.
Have a great day oh get ready for the rain tomorrow.

Okay I have to rant this. . . Today I received some Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs I was sure were going to be really blue or at least pale blue. One of my friends warned me they are NOT as blue as advertised, but more just a pale blue. She showed me some pics of what she received, and they were still pretty nice. What did mine look like? . . . . They were GREEN. What?!!! . . . Can I at least have light blue eggs? How is it other customers get blue eggs and I get green ones? I already have green Ameraucana eggs. . . Sure, it is not a desired Ameraucana color but I'm okay with a small flock of them. . . But seriously, I paid decent money for these. . . And GREEN eggs are not what I want. I'd settle for them if they were vibrant or if the breeder apologized or explained, but no. . . They're a pale green, and she said she considers them blue, just as blue as her photos. . . . AAaaaaaa!!!

The breeder isn't in WA, but is on BYC. Rather disappointed. If the chicks that hatch out do not meet the standard for Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, I'm selling them. I already have green eggs, and the breeder I got them from is an honest good friend.

If you want good blue eggs, go for Pips&peeps or Gary Ramey.

What is a "Baja" chicken?

Near disaster averted yesterday - the neighbor's cat got in with the Babies!

Amazingly enough, even though the cat took Snowflake home to show off, the neighbor was able to rescue her almost unharmed (she has a scratch on her back).

Initially we thought that in addition to the scratch on Snowflake's back, that the cat had gotten one of the Dominiques, but she turned up later hiding behind the coop. I never would have found her if it hadn't been for her "sisters" making such a ruckus inside the coop, calling to her, getting her to call back. It was a sight, seeing her sister standing on top of their nesting box, stretched out on tippy-toes, calling. While I watched and listened, I could here the stray calling from outside, where I found her anxiously calling, trying to track the sound. We were both happy to see each other! The chicks' "Mama" call works for humans too!

They were all happily reunited, and set to eating and drinking like nothing ever happened.

Today, despite the rain, I'll be moving them into a secure pen of their own. I had been hoping to be able to keep them in the coop with the Big Girls, but since the Girls need free access to get in and out, that means the Babies will be vulnerable to another attack, so into lockdown they go.

Out of curiosity, has anyone noticed if their white colored birds are more vulnerable to predation/attack? We are wondering because everytime we have white chickens (or chicks that will grow up to be white) they are the ones who seem to get attacked first, while the darker colored ones seems more likely to escape.

Thanks for all the welcome notes, it is enjoyable reading about the various experiences and garnered knowledge. Have a great day - even if it is raining (just wish we had gotten the fertilizer and grass seed down yesterday!)

Best wishes,
Odette

Mike! You are an ENABELER!!!! I have not been there in a few weeks, but I see they have even more birds now then they did last time I was there. I may have to pop in....just to see.... !!! LOL!!

Tamara

PS: You ought to encourage them to get a website to list what they have and what's on order to be delivered when. I've mentioned it to them a few times, but so far it's a no go. I think it would bring them a lot of business!!!
