Hello there,

We are trying to get a chicken community together here in Wallingford to support
both Chicken owners and those aspiring to become one. If you have not done so
already, please become a member of Sustainable Wallingford (for free) at
http://greenwallingford.ning.com/ and then join City Chickens (for free) at
http://greenwallingford.ning.com/group/wallingfordcitychickens . We also
currently have a forum going to collect the names and contact info for people
interested in joining/helping to build a co-op. If the SW thing is too much for
you, just send me your contact info at the address below. We are going to have
our first cooperative chicken feed order, the same locally produced organic feed as
SURF, in just 2 weeks, so join us! See you soon.

Hi Nick,

We just picked up a Cochin/Barred mix from Arlington the other day. Nice area for chickens and people alike, I'd say. If you need any help just let us know. Good luck with those fluff balls, they are adorable. Those leg feathers can cause problems/get painful, so keep 'em dry!

Thanks for the welcome.

I liked their setup, but I haven't been to any other before to compare it to. I look forward to all the advise and knowledge that everyone has to share here.

from Forks! Personally I love their setup, never been there, and for people just looking for some chickens, that's the way to go.

Otherwise, with breeds there like the Crevecoeur, well, we have Rare Feathers here to get you better Crevecoeurs.

Where did you get your birds at? The Co-op? We like it up here.

Thanks for the kind words and advice also.

to all the newbies!!!

Illia, that's the most beautiest egg ever!!! Is it one of yours??? BTW, do you sell hatching eggs? I think after my hatch next week, I'm going to have to put a halt to hatching for a bit, but I still want some Ameraucana & Marans for the pretty egg colors, maybe this summer. Do you sell those?

This was timely - I was just trying to remember what day my two Runners started setting on their nests and wondering if it was too early to candle - guess it was March 14 or 15. They didn't seem to get serious for about four days (off the nests more than on them it seems). Now they've both gone into that growly faze when I look in on them, and I hardly ever see them out for food and water. It took me a while to get the hang of the candling thing, but I was feeling pretty confident about where I was at by the end of my last hatch last Spring. Guess I'll give it a try tomorrow or Sunday if they head out for the morning meal.

I've decided I'm going to work with deer netting for the runs. It seems pretty sturdy (though I realize it wouldn't pass muster for determined predatory mammals). I've got some up and am pretty pleased with how it seems to work - EXCEPT for the fact that it will collect fir tree debris on windy days and I'm not sure how that's going to work.

Sadly the US has such poor quality Barnevelders compared to the rest of the world, so if it was from a Barnevelder. . . It would be on sale for a LOT of money.

I've yet to see Barnevelders in the US lay dark eggs.

It is from a Black Copper Marans, and I got it from Wynette in Michigan. Isn't it just the most perfect Marans egg you've ever seen?

I do not sell hatching eggs yet, but will starting in September. (Ameraucanas, Araucanas, and Marans) This egg is in the incubator now and everyone send it good vibes, because I want it to hatch out a perfectly healthy BOY.
