I got a happy surprise this morning and found four brand new Runner ducklings my broody's nest. I was about to give up. There had been pips and scratching noises a couple of days ago but all was quiet yesterday with just two tiny pips in the eggs. I'm TRYING to leave the new family alone for awhile, but will try to get pictures later today. It's looking like I've got two blacks and two blues.

I'm not going to the show, have to finish my coop and run. And my brother in law is coming over to give an estimate of the roof repair on the old shed, later to be a chicken coop little does my DH know.

Why don't we all make BYC shirts for ourselves? Say make them green for Washington and write or have printed, "I'm a BYCer"? Just a thought. And then when anyone is at any show or fair we can try and spot each other. I look for BYC shirts everywhere I go.

Congrats on the chicks though! I'm in the middle of watching some Jersey Giants, Ameraucanas, Marans, and a Polish x EE chick hatching!!

I have to keep laughing at all of you and this chicken bathing stuff. Guess if I ever get serious, I'll have to learn how to do it too. With the ducks you know, - well they just bathe themselves. But I'm guessing there is some preening that goes on for showing.

I've never bathed a chicken before either, but sometimes I'm tempted. My run gets pretty muddy when it rains a lot and my girls could use a bath right now. lol I'm sure it'll come off with all their preening, though, since it's drying out.

If you have sand use it. My 2 to 3 inch layer lasted most of winter. About two months ago though it was pretty much gone. I want to get mine off of craigslist for free.
So what I did was buy straw bales.
Not only does that stop them from walking on all that mud and you sliding in it the straw gives them something to do looking for bugs and I throw either food or bird seed in it.
They really like that. Good exercise for them.
