Thank You. IT is a little giant still air. There is no fan. But on the incubator is a large yellow sticker that says the temp should be 99.5. I am going to turn it up. I also candled the eggs since I took them from their mom. I am not sure which are good and which arent. 1 guinea egg is clear except for a small area that is dark. The other is totally dark. There are some chicken eggs too some were totally dark, the others were all dark except for a small area that was either clear or you could see blood vessels in the clear area. The eggs are blue, green and brown. What do you think are my chances for hatch. THey are all at about 21-22 days along. This is the first time incubating eggs so I am hoping to get a couple to make it. The other eggs are still under mom and except for the one she hatched yesterday I do not see any more pips and I do not want this baby to be alone. WOnder if I could go get 2 day old cochins and sneek them under her so the other is not lonely. Any advice would be appreciated.

Busy day here today! My girls and I loaded the truck and did a big dump run. Got home and told them since we were already dirty then we might as well work in the yard! Boy did we!!! 1 daughter finished weeding the garden. The other weeded 2 of my flower beds. I moved 2 yards of dirt! Got peas & lettuce planted and 2 more pots of flowers done!! Hoping to start the construction of the Duck Hotel this week!!!

Any ideas that I might find useful in my construction would be greatly appreciated! I have room for a 9' x 5' area. I was planning a 3' long x 3' high x 4' wide house. A 6' long x 5' high x 5' wide run attached to the house. I am going to fully enclose the run with poultry wire around the top and half inch hardware cloth around the bottom. I am painting the whole thing to match my own house! '

Ended up canceling our annual Memorial Day camping trip because the Duck Hotel was not done yet. Can't leave the babies in their brooder alone for the whole weekend!!! My 2 legged human babies are being very understanding. I told them they could have friends over and have a bon-fire to try and make up for it! '

Hope y'all had a good weekend!!!

They went to their happy home today. An organic flower farm near the tulip fields in Skagit. They are pets and slug control with kids to love them

did you get your girls settled?? If not, here is what I did for my two silkies that shared a large dogloo for their hatch.. I used two cardboard boxes, with an 'entry' cut into them..stuffed a bunch of straw/shavings around the empty spaces to prevent lost babies and to help keep everyone warm.. now they co-parent their duckbabies.. you can see 'em on my blog--the 3 amigos

hope that helps, if you got this in time...

BUT ACTUALLY, if they are already settled onto nests they put together themselves--I would only put the eggs under them and not do anything else. The only chicken I have never had a problem getting off a nest that has been 'disturbed' are the silkies.. everyone else freaks out. Good luck!

alright. i got a dog crate put de and lime in it and found some mower clippings that were dried stuffed them in. then didd the same with the doghouse.... the broodies were not happy about that but the nesting needed changing... i powdered it with de and lime.

now the buff orphington and the australorp are "sharing" 12 eggs (the aussie has most) and i convinced the silkie to go into the dog crate then swaped out the golf balls for 6 real eggs. and swaped the golfballs from the 2 broodies.

so in theory each is responsible for 6, 6, 6.

and i got smart. i labeled both ends with todays date.

so this time i don't have to crack open rotten eggs 4 weeks from now. what are the best days to candle?

i de'ed 2 of the hens, couldn't catch the other the buff. when i do i plan to de it for lice. i have learned that chickens that sit in place get lice.

i candled all of the eggs and removed the porus ones. and dropped 2, one banty and one ee..... oh well. then mom went and dropped them again at the refridgerator. those were unlucky 3 eggs.......

most are pretty clean. here is to my luck that my hatch ratio is better than the last one.... 3/11 was the last and 1/8 from 2 days of wet cold (chick died anyways...)....

Ok!!! My eggs are finally in the Bator!!!

CAN"T WAIT!!!!!

I'll just live vicariously through the two of you since my husband will lock me in the coop if I do anything like that right now! However, if my rooster (Zeus) decided to go the natural route and any of my girls go broody who am I to mess with nature, right?
