I don't know - I think the writer was more or less offering a tongue-in-cheek humorous discussion about the places and people that are fighting allowing chickens and those who go and argue in defense of a small flock ordinance. He gives a pretty good summary of the some of the things we, as owners, find to laugh about ourselves. I didn't react negatively. Just smiled at his description of how many of us love and defend our right to own a small flock. Yep, dogs can be loud and messy and so can kids and so can cars, but you gotta admit that the sound of a hen bragging about her newly laid egg is pretty impressive (though it certainly isn't any worse than other loud neighborhood noises and it's usually only once a day per hen
. There will always be neighbors with nothing better to do but find things to complain about and fight, but I'm thinking Bob Young wouldn't really be upset if his neighbors had chickens. He's just trying to portray the point that there are a few people out there who aren't as convinced that the backyard chicken trend is a positive thing (but seems to acknowledge that the the trend is in favor of us BYC enthusiasts). Anyway, I enjoyed the article and wasn't offended.
