I don't know - I think the writer was more or less offering a tongue-in-cheek humorous discussion about the places and people that are fighting allowing chickens and those who go and argue in defense of a small flock ordinance. He gives a pretty good summary of the some of the things we, as owners, find to laugh about ourselves. I didn't react negatively. Just smiled at his description of how many of us love and defend our right to own a small flock. Yep, dogs can be loud and messy and so can kids and so can cars, but you gotta admit that the sound of a hen bragging about her newly laid egg is pretty impressive (though it certainly isn't any worse than other loud neighborhood noises and it's usually only once a day per hen . There will always be neighbors with nothing better to do but find things to complain about and fight, but I'm thinking Bob Young wouldn't really be upset if his neighbors had chickens. He's just trying to portray the point that there are a few people out there who aren't as convinced that the backyard chicken trend is a positive thing (but seems to acknowledge that the the trend is in favor of us BYC enthusiasts). Anyway, I enjoyed the article and wasn't offended.

Well, my girls are in trouble. Two of them flew over mine and my neighbor's fence into my neighbor's yard. The neighbors have a red heeler (she is a sweet heart - but I am certain she would eat chickens), so I had to make two MAD DASHES over to neighbor's yard before Tess (red healer) would eat them. All my girls are now in jail and are going to stay there until the good permanent exterior fence is put up. Little brats, a few always have to ruin it for the masses.

I don't know if I'd ever take a rooster in the store like that, but I did take a baby chick in the grocery store once. She was in my sweatshirt pocket keeping warm. I was like a momma kangaroo, I guess. I was moving her from one place to another and had to stop at the store so slipped her in there. It was winter and I didn't want her to get cold outside

Oh I still have it. I don't want him poo-ing in it though. Currently, I just tuck him under my arm and walk in. It works.

I had to take one of our BCM roosters to the vet after he was injured (he attacked our friend's senior dog who tried to avoid him and finally just bit him to make him go away - crazy rooster that one), so he was in a cage in the back of my Mazda 5. While I was shopping, an older woman grabbed my elbow and asked "was that a rooster in your car?" I told her yes, she then said "you have to tell me what kind he was so when I tell the ladies at the Senior Center I'll have all the details!" When we walked out to our cars she waved at the rooster, who promptly pecked the car window at her. She was thrilled!

I grinned for hours from that one.

Coop of Dreams: Everett is getting its very own chicken coop tour.

Following in the footsteps of similar tours in Seattle and Portland, Everett residents may explore 10 residential properties with chicken coops to learn about coop construction, hen care and local chicken laws.

The Riverside Neighborhood Association is hosting the inaugural event — the Everett Chicken Coop of Dreams Tour — from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 24.

Though maps and tickets will be available for free starting July 17 at Zippy’s Java Lounge, Sno-Isle Food Co-op and Cenex Co-op Supply, all in Everett, starting July 17, organizers are suggest visitors make a $10 donation to the Riverside Neighborhood Association at any of the tour sites.
