Ya, bad enough I already have severe degenerative disc disease... this does not help, but I just can't see the point of living without ACTUALLY living! I don't want to simply "survive"......

Happy 4th everyone!!! Be Safe!!!!

Chickielady, sorry I haven't had time yet to snap photo's of the cuckoo roo!!! We are hosting a gathering here later AND my dad flies in tomorrow morning for a week's visit, so I've been on cleaning mode!!! I will try and get one up tomorrow at the LATEST!!!!

So just a little info,
YOu dont want to worm your animals unless they need it. With eveyone worming all the time the worms are getting a restiance ( sorry rotten speller I am ) built up. This is the same thing for antibotics. We really need to be careful with what we do to our animals and our bodys...
I check our animals often for signs but unless I see something or see something on my Micro. I dont worm. Ive gone to lots of class's with Goats and the vets all say this. Plus they also say to leave a few alone so there worms dont become super worms.

Ok so every one have a GREAT 4th..

Boy what a 4th of July we have had. We live with our Landlord on his 12 acreas. He has six cows. The Black Angus bull (Fred) is about 1,800lbs.. But he is so gentle. Kim (KMHunter) even has pictures of her and her son sitting on his back. Well I was out sitting with my chickens last night at about 7:00pm and I couldn't see Fred in the pasture so I went looking for him. I walked the whole fence line five times and couldn't see any place he could have got out. we drove up and down the road and looked everywhere till dark. This morning at 7:00am my landlord found him. he had got under the fence and went down a steep bank and was stuck up to his stomach in a mud bough. The firemen came and spent 2 1/2 hrs. pulling him out and back up the hill. But he was in shock and very back shape. They suggested that we put him down right then. But one guy wanted to wait. He came around and was his old self BUT he couldn't get up. He tried and tried but just couldn't. His back legs were gone. So at 5:00 pm we finally but him down. Talking to the vet on the phone. He said he probable had porlasis (sp? ) and gave him only a 15% chance of making it.
I told the Landlord, its time to get rid of the cows and get chickens

Hi everyone!

I am new to the forum! I am excited to see that there is a post here for us Washingtonians! I just recently moved from Seattle to Mount Vernon, and I'm very happy to finally have room for chickens. I got my first chicks this spring. I have one Rhode Island Red, one Barred Rock, and one Polish. I am looking forward to getting more soon!

I have also heard the same, and that when you do worm you should use a different medication everytime so the worms do not become resistant to that particular product.
I think DE dusted on the feed does help...

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to be here and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions! Tonight I'm just trying to keep my chickens distracted from the firework noise- they all ran into the coop on their own and are hanging out in the corner. I gave them an apple, so hopefully that will take their mind off of things!
