My black (BBS) Marans roo is all black and has just started developing red (mohagany) strips in his neck hackle, odd I thought in a blue/black roo...what do you think ?
He is awesome, will send a pic tomorrow if ya want~

Well sorry to rain on everyones parade. But I just walk in the house, I lost one of my Buff Hens today to an unknown predator, so far I will find out which animal and take care of the problem. Had to tell someone about my bad day.

I am not a Maran's expert by any means, but I think this is the copper coloring that is coming in? Here's a link to the Maran's page on Feathersite.

Remember, they are officially Black Copper Marans. That mahogony color is the copper part of them.
