I really want to be able to hatch and grow babies. I know a roo is a pain for a city peep like me but to breed and grow and etc ya gotta have a roo. I'll just have to get to work on the roo noise proof apartment to attach to my coop.

I would continue moving the Buff Orpington I have to the garage every night with no complaints IF he was a breeder I wanted and not just a nice protective roo.

Illia, have you some nice red-brown marans, such as:
Golden, Salmon, Brown-red, Wheaten, Black-tailed red ?
I need a roo, and 2 hens...and I also want 2 blue-red ameraucana roos, and will cull the 2 I have showing golden hackle?
It is exhausting, no ?

You're confusing me.

I do have Wheaten and Brown-Red / Black Copper Marans, yeah. I don't have pullets or cockerels for sale at the moment though. Golden hackle is indeed something to cull. As for maintaining proper color, yes, it is exhausting.

OK, sorry, I will simplify:
I need a good golden/red-brown marans for the Golden Cuckoo project, 1 roo, several pullets and I am wondering if I souldn't just buy Golden Cuckoo eggs...
Then I want to go red/blue Ameraucana
I want this:

two very interesting and different projects...
sorry for being confusing!

I have some Javas lined up for spring if I can get away from it.
Javas are wonderful birds...there was just a few articles on them in Mother, go back through the archives.
I just got Rhode Island White eggs and hatched 4 chicks, 1 roo we are sure of so far, and 3 hens, so hopefully we can work on bringing this breed back from the verge also.
I will send a PM to the woman I got my RIWs from, she has Javas I am pretty sure.
Even more rare is white Javas...but blacks are so beautiful.
And how are you going to do all this when you cannot have a rooster ?
Why can't we surgically prevent a rooster from crowing so city folk can keep them ?
A simple altercation with the vocal cords ?
Sounds so mean, but it is possible and within a decent cost amount ?
Have to ask our Tacoma vet about that opinion ?
I know when the general alarm goes up here..a hawk or mysterious shadow under a bush...ALL my birds go off including the Guineas and the din can blow your ear drums out...and poof! Every bird disapears, and not a peep made.
You would never know a single chicken lived here, it is like a ghost town !

But I seriously can admit the girls going off on alarm or the "I am gonna lay an egg " song and a few extra hens always join in on the song singing and that can be just as noisy if not more noisy as a roo crowing.
So far, I have 6, and none crow before 6:30.
It is nice in that he is my alarm clock and gets my butt out of bed.

My neighbors don't seem to mind the "general" noise just the Roo noise at 7am and I have to admit the Roo is loud but then he's very large. If I can get Java's I might make a little noise proof roo apartment! and because I have a rooster already which none of them have seen I might be able to "switch" roos and no one gets grumpy.
If the Java breeder has eggs I'd love to get some!

Btw DIYSeattle is getting some welsummers! gonna be a heritage chicken neighborhood!

I'm hoping for some brabanters.
