I am not sure what you mean by won't dry off..... do you mean her oil coat is gone and she is wet feathered?
* I know nothing about ducks so forgive me just trying to understand.

Boy I tell ya I just can't win. My pick up is on its last weak leg after only 318,000 miles. I had a supply of firewood lined up but it fell through then yesterday my saw decided after 14 years it was wore out beyond reasonable repair and today while using DW's little 1947 Farmall cub tractor to move some wood to the shed the starter went out.

Juliet is an apendix QH, has a bit of a hay belly, and sunk inon her back hips... It could just be her age, but I can keep her healthy and happy. I specialize in elder equine care, plus equine nutrition in general. Juliets teeth are all but rotten out, so she gets a warm mash of beat pulp, Alfalfa pellets, and wheat bran, with two cups of LMF senior sweet feed. Usually I prefer to not feed sweet feed as there is little nutritional value in corn, and all the sugars... Straight oats are much better than sweet feed.

I have an 11 year old dog as well. She's my first "kid" and she's rolly polly... I call her my uniboob.

She is on a diet, but just doesn't lose any weight... But she isn't gaining iether... So...

She's happy healthy, and still moves around, plays with the younger dogs, and kicks butt doing so! lol

Ouch QH she is a bit thin

Yes most likely its age poor thing. sounds like she will be getting spoiled just right!

I only asked cuz most appaloosas are way over fed in general even by many people who deal with them a lot. My first horse was a salt/pepper blanket with black spots on the blanket. He was a Indian res horse (means most likely from old mustang stock way back when) and I was taught how to care for him and the other 2 girls (black w/snowflakes and a salt/red roan blanket) I got from res by a old horse guy on the res. This was a long time ago when appy's were not real common here. I never could figure out why everyone thought my horses were thin until I got a couple TB's and found out that what was fit and healthy for a appy was skinny for the TB.

BTW none of anything i said was directed in any way... its something thats kind of a pet peeve for me so I always ask breed before I say skinny/fat about a animal.

I have to correct myself. Both mares are Warmbloods. So she is still thin, and misty is on the lean side...

I unsderstood why you were asking the breed. I had an older Appy here with me over the summer. He came here fat with a major sway back, and left fit with less of a sway...

Well sweetheart, we are all just getting so old....
I am on one of those buying sprees I do every year or so...it is where I get the credit cards (which are all paid off at least monthly) and I have a fit after suffering and "doing without" or doing something the hard way for so long...and I go out and buy NEW!!!
Yesterday I bought a NEW oil stove, and day before I bought 2 sets of 5 OZ double brushed 100% cotton flannel sheets (lands end) YUMMM, and got my saw fixed, and now I have to go cut wood, but at least the equipment is new, makes my job so much easier.
Time to buy new Rustler...(Sigh!)
Maybe you can find gently used in CL ?

OK friends, I have a little blue Marans hen that has a swollen crop, not hard, but very large and soft like it is full of warm butter...I have inverted the bird and goo drips out her beak...and she seems fine although a little dumpy, I put her on a roost last night and this morning she was down and out foraging with the others, still swollen....what, if anything do you think it is, and what to do ?
I have seen impacted hard crops, but this is big and squishy...

Robin, here's a good thread about all kinds of crop problems. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=156772

Hope
your hen is all better soon!

Thanks Tamara !
I have massaged her yesterday and this morning so I will gather supplies as per the post you sent and catch her again...and flush the crop with some warm water and olive oil, and see what happens...
I thought you were going to a bird show this weekend ?
Well, glad you were here !

I thought it was Monday, so was scrambling to get ready for a dental exam...then DH told me it was Sunday...see what happens to me when the Sprint Cup race is on Saturday?
Suppose to be on Sunday !
So now I feel like it is Monday!!!
You ought to see me when the NASCAR season is over, then I am really lost~~~~

Ive had that happen with one of my hens. It turned out that she swallowed a LONG piece of grass.. I had to gently help her remove it a little at a time. But it was the same sinario where goo would come out when the birds head was lower then her crop... Sence then, I make sure any grass clippings they get ahold of are short.

Good luck with your hen!

I'm here for a little while, but then back out to the rescue to move more stuff. The mares are OK, but dehydrated, so gatoraide mixed with their water, and the vet will be out tomorrow to give them a Vitamin B shot for a pick up. We will probably wind up with a mess of powdered electrolites as well.

LOL My husband found out that I am building a second coop. He says that the neighbors are going to know me as the crazy chicken lady... Ide rather be a chicken lady than the crazy cat lady with 30 cats in her house. lol At least my chickens dont come inside. Even the babies I'm getting from Illia wont make it insode the house! lol

Ive been so insanely busy the past three days... Between the rescue, my daughter, and my husband selling his car... I had to drive my truck to Everet last night... Wound up getting lost looking for a dealership, just to tell the guy where to go and leave very upset... Anyone know of any good running cars for sale for around $1800.00? Cause if I have to deal with one more pushy rude inconsiderate salesmen, I might just lose it!
somad.gif
I flat out yelled at the dealer, told him that I hate people who talk over me, that I was ticked and was going to go sit in my truck.

It was NOT a good experience.
