Thanks Got them to be our broodys if the bator is not running...

they have big poofy butts, big powder puffs, the biggest I have ever seen, and when broody, they will stand up about 3 foot tall and swell their feathers to intimadate, the big girls are not afraid of anything!

Alright my hatch is done!! - And I can't hatch anything until November 7th.

- Our utility district has scheduled a 7 hour power outage before then, and it's really clawing at my patience.

Anyway, here's my results:

3 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas
1 Duckwing Easter Egger - supposed to be an Ameraucana
2 Blue Easter Eggers - supposed to be blue Ameraucanas and one is slightly deformed

2 Duckwing Olive Eggers
1 Blue Olive Egger
3 blue/black Copper Olive Eggers

None have tufts and 2 of the Olive Eggers are single combed, meaning they will not give olive or green colored eggs.

Currently I've got him in with his Wheaten girls, and I'm planning to set some eggs to either sell as chicks or grow out to sell as spring layers (I'll also be replacing a couple of my current girls with his offspring) but that darn power outage is stretching my schedule.

He's actually a lot more mature than that now. I just got some photos of him with this Wheaten pullets, but I'll have them uploaded tomorrow. He now has a fully grown tail, sickles included, and a much more filled out overall body. I'm hoping with age he'll really become a hunky boy like your older Wheaten.

I find that all of my Blue Wheaten boys are SLOW growers, but the normal Wheatens grow like weeds!

We are expecting an "oop's" litter from Wheazy, but at least they are pure bred and both parents are from show stock and registered... Ugg... Puppies are due in less than two weeks... They are due aprox. around the 6th of November... Yeay happy Birthday to me! I get pups as an early gift from the dogs...

We also have two foster mares who should be leaving mid November, then our two personal equines Lacy and Teagan... Then the four pullets who are holding out on me I swear it! I'M STILL waiting on eggs! Grrr!!!

Silly girls need to figure it out. I'm SICK of store bought eggs... Oh and then there are tjhe 8 or so chicks I will be picking up from Illia when they are ready.

Ok I'll stop rambleing now. lol

Cheryl !!! The wyandotte sisters are still cranking out a egg a day...and some are double yolkers, I have wormed them and have them on great feed...Out of all 75 of my birds, these 2 were the only ones laying for a while...OH!
And they have come to accept and respect a rooster !
Their eggs have big targets, and so on it goes...they are a delight
Want them back now ????

I think it would be a good idea to try it, especially for those sub-zer areas, I doubt the roo would care.

I don't knit. I do quilt, and crochet. I would have to study the design to be able to make the hats stay on a roo. I really like the idea.

Why Use Soy-free Organic Chicken Feed?

Soybean is a major ingredient in livestock feeds, with chicken feed containing the highest proportions. Almost half of the beans processed for livestock feed are for chicken feed. That’s because soybeans contain 38% protein, an essential nutrient for poultry.

If soy is such a prevalent and industry accepted ingredient in regular and organic chicken feed, why should we be worried? Much of it depends on your personal nutritional beliefs or needs. I’ll share with you the major concerns held by many food conscious folks, so you can make an informed decision for yourself about what to feed your chickens.

Originating in China, soybeans have been consumed by humans for thousands of years. It’s only been in the last century that the way we eat soy has changed dramatically. Fermentation is how soy was first prepared for eating. It was a side dish that complimented the rest of the meal. Raw soy is not fit for consumption and can be considered toxic. Today’s soy is processed in variety of methods (not fermented) which denatures the proteins and increases levels of carcinogens.

Soy is a prevalent ingredient in almost all processed foods. Those with a soy allergen (it’s one of the top eight food allergens for humans) know this best. It’s in fast-foods, baby food, processed meat, breads, etc. Unless you are very conscious of everything you eat, it is easy to consume an unregulated amount of soy products every day.

Perhaps you are not allergic to soy, here are some other findings that may be important to you. Soy is not a complete protein (as commonly believed), lacking some important amino acids. Soy foods can cause deficiencies in calcium and vitamin D. Soy increases levels of estrogen (possibly simulating the growth of related tumors) and decreases levels of testosterone. It has been related to pre-mature sexual development in females, and delayed development in males. Animal studies show soy foods causes infertility in animals.

Because soy is a prolific food allergen, the FDA requires it to be listed clearly as an ingredient in processed foods. At this time the FDA does not require meat, raised on soy feeds, to be disclosed. People highly allergic to soy are affected by this.

Soybean is the human choice for animal feed, thus covertly making it another avenue into our daily consumption of it. Chickens receive the highest level of exposure, and it is retained in their meat and eggs. If you are allergic to soy, or concerned about levels of consumption, soy-free organic chicken feed is produced by two organic feed mills in the USA (in VA and IL).

From personal standpoint I try to reduce my soybean intake as much as I can. There are studies that suggest in Asia that they eat soy and its healthy but they do not highly process it, they ferment it. There is GMO free soybean available but it is still processed the same way. It comes down to personal beleif and preferences.
