In Seattle and the surrounding counties, there are laws for new construction NOT allowing run off. It is supposed to be contained on the property. That's why you see so many detention ponds in new developments. I remember when I lived in Kent, the city of Kent sold rain barrels at wholesale to residents. I suspect that's more of a problem on the east side of the Cascades.

In some places yes it can be illegal. I think it has to do with area ground water. or lack of ground water or something. In a area that gets a lot of water like forks I can't imagine it being a problem.

Well I am just not too sure I should be revealing my good sources. lol

At the Centralia transfer station. All you have to do is fill out a page that has your BASIC info and then write down what you took and how much. It is only open when the hazo hut is and I think that is wed and maybe every other sat.

I had forgotten about that law about inspections and food safety laws. Im sure that if it had passed we would have heard about it. It never ceases to amaze mehow they thinkof ways to "protect" us from ourselves while protecting their business income.

Someone tol dme once that if I didnt handle my food properly I would get salmonella and that it would be my fault. I told them I dont feel that any of my food needs to be a deadly roulette game, especially from the grocery store. If they cant handle and contain contamination how are they going to lobby and tell us how we can or cant contain something?

I do think that there are major differences between animals and people. Each of us has to trust at least to some degree about that it is a personal decision when to draw the line. It is very difficult at times to know when enough is enough...

JustBugged, just wanted to say that I thought your post about was spot on. Many good points made. And while I don't think I could ever bring myself to spend $160 on a rooster, I certainly can understand why you did.

For the person looking for a coop, I see several folks have mentioned CL already. There are from time to time some nice coops on there. I would also just suggest that you not rule out something a little more unconventional. For instance, my upper coop is a 10x12 Royal Vinyl Shed that I got off of CL for $500. Of all my coops and chickhouses it is the best because it's easy to clean, is insulated, and it won't rot.

For the family in Omak, my heart just broke when I read the story about the little boy. The comments about his last 30 seconds of life are powerful and true. I will certainly lift that family up in my prayers. What an unfortunate yet striking example of the brevity of life and the significance of Eternity.

God Bless,

Have you looked on the Portland CL? I have been looking for two years now on both Seattle & Spokane CL for someone to build me 4 to 6 bantam coops. These would be used during the breeding season and during the colder momths, the bantams would be in main (heated/insulated) coop.

I have cash and blueprints.

People either back out at the last minute (one guy AFTER I'd sent a deposit) disappeared and I've had others promise, promise, promise and not return my emails or phone calls....so I'm not sure...if you find someone who does a good job at a reasonable price, please let me know.

Geeze it is all I do building coops and pens and brooders and incubators...
