The Spokane rules look awfully restrictive... Very happy to live in the middle of nowhere.. can have all the chooks I want (or can handle) without having to ask any permission (cept DW) but that doesn't usually stop me

The ordinance reads very restrictive, as they include housing for any pet/animal, including dog houses! From what I've found on my own, code enforcement ignores that part of it as a general rule. Also, I only plan on 3 hens (I still need to look up our exact property size (it is a large lot, bigger than any of our neighbors) in my soon-to-be coop that is currently a garden/storage shed on the property, but think I'll be "okay".

Thanks for the info...I may get them anyway, lol, but I want to keep it as "legal" as possible! I knew I had seen a Big R, but couldn't remembeer where! I moved here 3 years ago from Central OR and still get lost when I wander too far from home, lol.

the Aslin Finch is closer to you.. it is just before frank's diner on the left side as you are heading north... they are a chain in this area..

Both Aslin Finch and Big R carry chicks in the spring...

just did the conversion... my property is around 3,027,420sq feet.. even if I lived in town I think I could have as many chooks as I could handle

Awesome! That was a little farther north that I was thinking, but will definitely head up there when the roads are a little better. My little pickup doesn't do so great in the ice.

Now to find an easy way to get our lot aize.

I'll add the rolling tape to my HF wish list. They have an add for a $30 color security camera with night vision that I totally want. I guess I'm going to have to go to pool night in the next few weeks and talk the boyfriend's buddy, the electrician, into wiring up my shed, lol. I wasn't planning on running it out there, but if I can get a 24/7 video feed, I'll gladly do it! With the added bonus if getting a light out there too.

I think I live in a really odd spot...between Division and Nevada, and only a few city blocks (maybe 10) from cows and horses! I know that there are "chicken owners in hiding"..I just don't want to be one of them...I'd hate to have to give up pets after finding out I'd done something "wrong".

Thank you for all the help so far! Now to find hardware cloth for as cheap as possible...when I find them online at Lowe's or Home Depot, they only have 1-4 in stock and usually someone buys them out from under me while I'm trying to get a comprhensive list so I can budget it, lol.

Thanks Cowgirl!

I think running it over with a tractor would do the trick, but I need a tractor:/. Maybe I'll put it on the driveway and flatten it with my car.

Initially the RIR was the aggressor, now it's the NH. All the girls have been a lot quieter since I separated them. They never really fought before, but they have always been noisy. Yesterday they were out to kill! The RIR and the NH have always had a bit of a power struggle between them, but they usually just posture. The RIR can have a bit of an attitude problem if she feels her position threatened. When she has an encounter with the NH, she will spend the rest of the day chasing around the other birds and pulling their feathers out. The NH never picks on the other birds, she usually runs to defend them from the RIR. All the other birds do their best to stay away from the RIR.

Big News, First Egg Today!!!

The New Hampshire (Chirp) laidan egg, the first ever egg for us (and her!) It's not that small, almost the same size as the ones we get from the grocery, beige with white speckles! As it is handled, the beige wears off.

DD is so proud, you'd think she was the one to lay it!

Can't figure out how to put the picture here, so it is on my BYC page.

Whattype of tubing are you trying to streighten??? I had a carport frame get bent up ijn a wind storm, and I just used long dowl rods to streighten them out, if there were any tears in the pipe from being crimped, I would just pound a chunk of dowel rod in, and it stiffens it right up. Its alot of work, but sure makes ith MUCH sturdier. But that only works "if" its tubing your trying to fix... If it is tubing... I'm not so sure I would run it over with a car... Might completely flatten the tube...
