Thanks to Chicken Rustler, I now know what I'll get my 12 yo son for Christmas!

(gimme a Brownie button, I figured out how to insert pictures:D)

The neighbor already knows he's a chicken killer because he brought my bird to her! She offered to get me a new chick in the spring when they have them at the Issaquah Grange - Yeah, a $1.50 unsexed chick in trade for my 20 week hen! I think not! I'm thinking about passing on the bill to her when I get my new chicks from Illia in a couple of months ... you know those rare, cool looking Polish? No. I won't to that, but I think she should at least get me a bag of organic feed and a new chick.

Later that same day, her dog came out of the woods bordering my property with a fresh elk leg! Yikes! I guess the cougar still has his stash. (My dog found a stash in our yard before the fence went up. I figured with all the construction in the area, the cat would have moved on! It's been a few years since I've seen him). I'm looking at portable electric mesh fencing now. Too many BIG Predators! Don't want my girls to get shocked, so I have an 85 foot portable fence that I will put up a few feet inside a larger electric one.

The wind has been blowing something fierce in North Bend for 2 days now, 65 mph gusts! Bungees and 2x4's on the coops are getting a workout trying to keep the tarps down. I had to anchor the chicken tractors to the ground with big spikes! I'm hoping no trees come down on them. I put the coops between the trees again to shelter them somewhat from the wind.

I'm feeling a bit neglected here.

Earlier today I posted our big news; we got our first ever egg! I even put some pictures of it on my BYC page. Not one of you congratulated me - I felt like a proud grandma this morning... now I'm wondering if the egg has something wrong with it.
