Jen Just lay a plank up onto it and secure the top end with a few screws. They will love it. I use to get those for our pygmy's.

oooohhh I know.. but it is SO BIG!! I mean, it's taller than the fence... it's a ginourmous goat eating spool I swear!!! I JUST got the redneck cherry picker truck moved out of the front yard that had been there for a year!! now there's a huge spool.. *sigh* it looks kinda funny I have to admit. like it belonged to a giant. My friend did say he was going to get a couple smaller ones for leaping onto. I know they will like it... it's just so large. I would still like to rehome it and use smaller ones--similar to the ones they have already...

There is a good sized spool at the Pacific county Fairgrounds, someone mounted it on a log stump, and encircled wire around it, and cut a few holes here and there, then roofed the top...it is now a fantastic quail or bantam chicken coop..it is sectioned in two by wire so sometimes they have rabbits on one side, chickens on the other.
The stump it sits on raises the spool to eye level, almost too high for little kids to see it.
In the center of the spool is the nest "box" which has alot of room in it !
A cartoon "mouse" type door leads out to the big part of the spool..and a door was framed on the outside of the spool and then the whole outside was stapled with poultry wire.
It looks alot like a tree house with a coop inside, very cool !
If I had one, that is what I would do with it.

Glad to hear someone is visiting my hometown today. i miss the lighting. Hope you got kettle korn or pears at the pear bear booth.
I normally work at those, they are run by Cascade Foothills Farmland Association, my family are members. all volunteers.

hope you enjoyed the snowfall, it sounds like home is being dumped on.

Leavenworth Ski Hill has a tubing hill that tows you up. Its REALLY FUN!

have a safe drive and enjoy the lights
BTW that store with the hot sauces is called Matte of Taste. i like the Honey Mustard Wasabi, really good on apple slices. somehow its not as spicy as it seems, the mustard cancels out the wasabi.
been studying today. really disliking biology. such slow progress on study guides. just finished 1 of 8. and that is for exam 4, not the comprehensive exam taken directly after.

on another note. Parents and Boyfriend report that we have NO WATER at home. Seems our WELL is not WORKING. they have to rough it w/ out water till monday. melting snow to make water, 3 people and 4 dogs... and one of them needed a bath- melted snow bath.
the power went off there and also knocked out internet and cable... electriciy works again but not net or tv. they are watching movies..... Makes me appreciate my dorm a little, showers, internet, tv.....

i had a random dream last night that i had another hen show up with another batch of chicks.... i think that was a Nightmare...... lol. thankfully i haven't heard of that happening again.....

This cracks me up. Serendipity and all... The past two days I have been wondering if that mustard shop was still there. Couldn't remember the name, but I used to get a mustard from Duck Puddle Mustards... It was a smokey sweetish mustard. maybe the name WAS Duck Puddle. Now, I need to make sure I get to Leavenworth again. I'd like to take the train. I do not drive in the snow.
And until then I can contact Matter of Taste and see if my mustard is still available.

I also like that wasabi mustard.. yum. actually, there are several that I like

Matter of Taste---remembered that when I saw the labels--but the kids always just call it The Hot Sauce Store.. lol!
It was beautiful!! The snow, the lights, the smells of the street vendor food, the singing. Loved it. It wasn't as crowded as in years past, I think because of the weather maybe? The passes where 'passable' on the way there, coming home was a bit more exciting--as it snowed probably 10 inches in town while we were there. We brought our own food this year, but I will keep in mind the pears! that sounds yummy

Hope your parents have water now??

Yes among other things I am a certified welder. My last job was building Bomb disposal trailers that go to Law enforcement and military. In fact I built the 3 dark blue ones that WSP has.

I know it is a drive, but there is a few boat builders out here that do that sort of thing, BIG fishing boats, and some refitters..sand blasting, painting and welding...let me look into it, and if you had a car good on gas~~~

Do you make those shepard hooks to hang flower baskets? I'm also looking for some that I can screw into the 4x4 posts on my fence and hang baskets from them.

This is a great idea! Can you build these at home??

Not me, but it seems to me that since the waterfowl need more humidity during incubation, that it would be better to hatch them now...look at our humidity !
What is it now, 89% ?????

Congrates and I want photos !!!

Chickie,. you are paying WAY too much to get those plastic hatching trays. If you can back out on that order let me know and I'll put you in touch with a person here in the PNW that sells them... Larry Urban. He's also a poultry judge.

All five ducklings are out now. I am enjoying the cuteness now, because it is followed shortly by the wet poopy mess that they become. Thank goodness I have wire bottomed brooders. Right now they are cute peeping little yellow fuzzballs. I do like the runners, I just wish they were larger/meatier. I love the upright stance and mine are pretty friendly and calm.

I live on the DRY side of the state and my incubator is always in the house. Being high desert we get HUGE shifts between day and night temps, can't expect the incubator to handle that if out in the garage/shop. I aim for 55-60% set to hatch and I hatch silkies and ducks like gangbusters.... geese,.. well,.. that's another story. I am switching to hand turning in a redwood incubator and natural incubation this year to hopefully get better survivability with the dewlap toulouse. I just LOVE those geese. LOVE. I try hard not to get attached to poultry, but they make it so darn hard.

Unfortunately, the appleyards are much much heavier and, although they aren't as interesting to watch, they are far better eating (the extra drakes have to go SOMEWHERE). The runners though, wow, good layers and very interesting active ducks.

I will try to get pics,.. it's my finals week and I'm half out of my head. Today there was a luncheon hosted by an instructor, and I introduced my only male classmate using the WRONG NAME to my husband and didn't even notice. By tomorrow I'll be asking the teachers if they can REALLY expect me to remember my own name when I need to know cardiac backwards and forwards as well as cranial nerves, etc etc. I mean, comeon? My name? How important is that really?

Oi. I love the coursework but have cumulative finals back to back.

What courses are you taking ???
I had to do all that certification for sugery assistant, maxillofacial.
Well, unfortunately the box is shipped, so no backing out, and maybe they will correct the shipping.
Usually when something is big and lightweight they do correct the shipping price.
It is a done deal, but please let us know who sells GQF stuff out here anyway !
Pretty please ???
You think the redwood incubator will hatch geese better than the GQF ?
I have read that waterfowl need more moisture than chickens, up to the point of spritzing the egg surfaces (like a wet mama duck/goose would be wet alot)
Are you saying (above) that Appleyards (silver) are much heavier than dewlap toulouse geese ?
I always thought silver appleyard DUCKs were way smaller than Toulouse geese...seriously !
Is there a appleyard goose ?
I am confused now, but nothing new there !

Ha, sounds like me. I just got my garlic planted last week. It's been so mild though it should be fine. It's not really supposed to get very big anyway before the cold sets in.

Ugh! I still have yet to plant the garlic... Going to do it this weekend though.
