And love flashy trout back lettuce, one of my favorites. Need to try it for winter though. Beautiful pictures!

CL love yer raised beds and find it kind of funny. I just brought home 5 truck and trailer loads of LARGE heavy duty crates that we plan to use as garden / flower beds. These are all made of nice ship lap or T n G lumber. The cost of wood to build these would be several hundred dollars if not in the thousands.
I am starting to get a complex !!!! why is it when I get on this time of night everybody leaves and I have to set here and babble to myself to keep us high on the list.

4cats; Your DH and BIL are correct - it is hydro-locked, and the estimate makes no mention of the cracked rod, bent cam-shaft, and cracked engine that the insurance adjustor (Farmers) mentioned in his phone call the other day. In fact it says on this that they won't know of other damage until the motor is dissassembled. My DH knows computers, but when it comes to skills I typically associated with male genes, he's lacking. I'm glad I questioned the price because I think he would have accepted some lousy settlement and then spent thousands more to get another TDI he can run on biodiesel. I don't want to spend all that $ for another car, I need $ for a bigger/better chicken coop, and will either have to pay some one to build it or learn how to build it myself.
Feeling a bit better now .... got to catch up on all the posts. Accidentally left my computer on while I went shopping and made dinner this evening. My inbox is flooded!

CR - you need to get your Carhartts at Sierra Trading Post (online). I get everything for my boy there as he is growing like a tree, a really big one. Everything is 35 - 70% off and they usually have some other good offers goin on that reduce the bill even more, like I think an additional 20% off for new customers.

They worked great! We are on glacial till here ... nuthin but rocks. I have to bring in all our dirt, so I use raised beds, boxes and garbage cans for my potatoes.

You and me both. I have a greenhouse, but it is at least half the size I need and would use. If I was smart I would quadruple the size. I also want heat and a auto-watering system in it. I now need to build some raised beds, but I am still uncertain that I have enough sunlight in my yard for vegetables.
Instead of raised beds you should try home made earthboxes.

I was too busy with new baby ducklings this year to do much in the garden, but I always do lots of flowers & water features!! Hoping we have a better summer in 2011 for veggies!
