Since I was in "special ed" due to my speech therapy and my hearing (I'm hard of hearing)
I got to have a special day with JP Patches and Aaron Brown for the day at school in 3rd grade.

I think the thought behind it was that the "normal kids" might come associate with us if we had someone who they wanted to meet.
the next year I was back in "normal" classes and just pulled out of class for a 1hr or so for the speech therapy rather then in "special class".

I think the "special class" was a blast as I got to hang with a bunch of local sports stars and etc who donated time to the schools.

DH talks about JP patches all the time - loved him (he did - clowns creep me out)...but anyway. He and his boy scout troup sold the most light bulbs and got to meet JP Patches too. DH wants to know if you were a "Patches Pal"?

not on the show lol just for the day at school...

The Freedom Rangers, Label Rouge, and otehrs are alternatives to the fast growing, fall over dead faster than you can say chicken nuggets, cornish x rock crosses. They are slower growing but are healthier. It used to be people developed their own and along the cornish x way they all went the way of the dodo. Most of the dual purpose and capons were neglected for 20 years or so. People are starting to see the ills of cornish crosses commercially raised and are going to the newer created specialty breeds. I think in teh UK they have similar breeds with similar made up names. They are created to grow faster, produce more meat, and eat less, if you can get all that in a healthy chicken. Many of them use cornish x or cornish genetics. Nothing wrong with that I dont think as long as they can walk after two weeks or so.
