Mr. Wiffle. I agree, that guy was a creep, and to this day, my mother refuses to buy Charmin because of him (and I won't buy it because the stupid bears are equally creepy ... papa bear snuggles up to TP when the romance music is on! Must be the offspring of Mr. Wiffle and the roll of TP.

We love Family Guy ... DH had to go out and buy all the episodes as we don't have cable, nor a working TV. We just use the computers for everything, but mine has stopped playing video.

Since I was in "special ed" due to my speech therapy and my hearing (I'm hard of hearing)
I got to have a special day with JP Patches and Aaron Brown for the day at school in 3rd grade.

I think the thought behind it was that the "normal kids" might come associate with us if we had someone who they wanted to meet.
the next year I was back in "normal" classes and just pulled out of class for a 1hr or so for the speech therapy rather then in "special class".

I think the "special class" was a blast as I got to hang with a bunch of local sports stars and etc who donated time to the schools.

Nice that you got to spend special time with a couple of celebs! I think many of us who grew up around here have special memories of JP Patches, he was certainly one of my faves and still is! Three years ago for my aunt and uncles 60th birthday, (they're twins), their spouses contacted JP and hired him to come to the big birthday bash. WHAT a thrill to have JP all to ourselves for an hour or so! He told stories, jokes, had a hula hoop contest for the kids. He had my then 15 year old daughter in the hula hoop contest, then asked her some questions in front of the audience. I thought it was so cool - of course my daughter just thought he was some odd old clown. I'm telling you though, he is still a lot of fun, and I did get him to autograph my JP Patches biography. His show was so entertaining - it's so funny to watch some of those old shows now when they run them since the adult characters on the show were often cracking up over things that went WAY over the kids heads. A few double entendres slipped through!

That sounds like it was fun to have JP Patches to yourselves.I loved watching him and still do.When he makes special appearances at places I love to see him. The last place I seen him was at The Yakima Fruit Stand and Market. It was nice to see him...

Can your computer still see your dvdrom or is it the software that won't play dvd's?
I use VLC for a dvd player http://www.videolan.org/ its not bloated like windvd or the other popular player and it works well on our older laptops.

Have you ever tried Paperbackswap.com ?

We get all out books from there now. I may have a bunch of old science books I can bring you when I get chicks in the spring. I don't list those on paperback swap because they are heavy and cost too much to send. I have to see what survived after the garage flooded.

Growing up in the 70's in Ketchikan, american TV was kinda hit & miss. I do know almost all the shows mentioned. But I really remember Canadian shows especially "The Beachcombers" and "Space 1999". I had a crush on Maya for the longest time

Russ- Gotta love those shapeshifting aliens.

As far as fish and bird kills. They've been around forever. Hood Canal has fish kills occasionally. I remember reading Rachael Carson's "Silent Spring" I think it was written in the 60's or 50's and it talks about fish kills.

OMG ! I remember Space 1999! It was my brothers favorite show. He even had the spaceship model, well, at least until my friends and I rigged it up with a bunch of fireworks and blew it to bits as revenge for blowing up my dollhouse and making wierd creatures out of my sisters dolls. When I saw Toy Story, the kid Sid reminded me a lot of my brother! He's a CHP officer now.

My mother is a Coast to Coast fan, therefore I can't stand the program. She's never met a conspiracy theory that she did not believe in. True. Bird and fish kills have been around forever. It has also rained fish and frogs.
