Back home we would tell people that were acting stupid that they must have eaten too many of them red hot dogs. Food coloring as it seems really does have adverse effects on your health. The exhaust from jets seems kind of far fetched, and pollution and interference with natural selection/processes is likely what killed the birds. Unless the aliens and the HAARP thing did it, then it isnt. I only wear my aluminum foil hat sometimes.

ELF (extremely low frequency) and HAARP (High frequency active auroral research program) are the targets of many conspiracy theories, most of which I find far fetched.

However, it is true that ELF may confuse migrating birds in flight at night because it is thought that some birds use the naturally occuring magnetic fields to guide themselves.

ELF is being researched to communicate with deeply submerged submarines by bouncing extremely long and low frequency waves off the ionosphere and down into the ocean.

Other goals of this program are to research the ionosphere and the ion interactions that make the night sky glow even when starlight, moonlight and cosmic ray excitation of the magnetosphere have been excluded.

One of the big concerns when HAARP started was that they would accidentally punch a hole in the ionosphere. Not sure what problem that would cause or even if it has happened. Have to do more reading.

It was kinda like the whole Large Hadron Collider scare where they thought, once it was turned on a micro black hole would be created and would suck the earth in...

Well, I felt out of the loop so had to google contrail. Turns out contrail is normal condensation from jets. The thing with the controversy is Chemtrails. LOL, kind of like the UFO's. Maybe, maybe not but life is short. I have too many other things to worry about than things that may or may not be a hoax. Whatever! Reminds me of those stupid emails that tell you if you don't forward it to ten people bad things will happen to you for the next ten days. Whatever, we all have bad days and we all die sometime. Can't do nuthin about that.

More quasi science questions!

I am new to the northwest and I have noticed food goes bad here alot quicker than South Dakota, Wisconsin or Illinois. Other people who have lived elsewhere have noticed the same thing. This occurs even when things are refrigerated. It can't be simply be blamed on humidity because Wisconsin and Illinois (near lake michigan) are extremely humid. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, last nite I was at Pizza Hut and paid with a credit card. Washington is the only state I have yet encountered where I am always asked for ID when using my credit card. I am glad to know that it happens and people follow the rules but it does get old after awhile. Other places, I have used my wife's or grandmother's credit card and no one asked a thing, so I can see the potential for abuse.
Anyway, I asked the girl at Pizza Hut why this was and she said Washington has the highest rate of identity theft in the country and also the highest number of methamphetamine addicts in the country, so she seemed to imply the two were related. I guess thats a good reason but does it ring true with anyone here?

It seems to me the Seattle area tends to follow the rules more in general than the rest of the country and has heftier fines when people jaywalk, talk or text while driving, speed, etc. Maybe Washington is run by control freak hippies from the 60's?

I dunno.

Don started out in NT about 23 years ago, then he did a lot with Windows, and then handwriting recognition software, especially Asian language versions, a brief stint in Auto, a longer one in Platform, and Silverlight for the past few years. It's all foreign to me.

Just had to run to the school. DD called because she forgot her lunch. I think she was trying to get me to let her come home because when I got there her eyes welled up "...and Mom, I'm not having a very good day. Someone took my pogo stick during PE and then my teacher threw a snowball at me and all the kids laughed." The girl needs to toughen up! I'm gonna tell the teacher to make the snowball bigger next time!

Some people just look too suspicious while others look very honest.

Geeze, I think at last count, I have hatched out 5 Cuckoo Marans, 5 Blue Copper chicks, and 3 Olive Eggers and 2 Blue Ameraucanas...instantly I have 50 chickens instead of 22.........OMG!!!!!!!!
