I was not happy about that.

I use to get mine from The Styles Company. Nevev had any problems. I don't know thier prices now as I have done away with the paper pay. They hac\\ve very cool designs and I would bet that by now they probablly have some with chickens or for those with a more sick mind ducks(?).

Your corn is gorgeous!

I'm planning my garden too .... decided to sell my rainy day fund so I can get some $ to build a greenhouse. It has to be sturdy with our winds and snow. Our growing season is also very short and wet. I've been going through my catalogs all day, that and re-drawing all my plans for the new coop, greenhouse and expanded veggie gardens.

Usually I grow heirloom tomatoes from purchased seed, but always a few manage to re-seed themselves and they pop up between the beans and peas the next summer. Won't happen this year though as I only got a few ripe tomatoes, and I ate those. I have big tomato cages that I made from hardware cloth with 5" squares. I wrap them in plastic for mini greenhouses until the weather warms. I also have a few cold frames, and I am going to try and cover a garden bed with hoops this year so I can hopefully get some cucumbers and maybe even a melon or two .... worried about the winds.

illia--you have some cool stuff going or starting it sounds like...

I am looking into 'real' hoop houses. I have my redneck hoop thing that housed lettuces.. they have held up but I haven't checked on them since the snow. I was surprised they did as well as they did in there. The lettuce may be duck food now

Would LOVE LOVE to have some sort of real green house too. It's on my wish list. Our property doesn't get a lot of sun.

I am trying for OP stuff if I order anything--and I usually try for heirloom if the growing season works. I talked to my dad and he saved all his seeds from last summer (as usual) So I may try some of his squashes and beans etc this year.

I want to try and do some popcorn!

I've never been one for conformation shows, though I am a real student of "soundness" and do breed for that. However, being a performance person, I do sacrafice "type" for "performance" when push comes to shove. I have put almost 75 performance titles on my dogs over the past 30 some years. Nowadays I only title in schutzhund, tracking, obedience and weight pull. Schutzhunds my first love and obsession.

As to your dog being 500 years old, I believe you! These guys live for-ever! I have several oldsters here now, one who is 12 and very well and his mom made it to 14 without a sick day in her life. I love my old guys... even though one is deaf which makes it tough to call him in the house! (Yard is fenced of course, but its big and he'll sit out in the middle, staring away from the house, and I go crazy yelling for him!) : )

Thanks Illena for the additional info, I will head on over to those threads. Look forward to meeting you guys at upcoming chicken shows! : )

What is Schutzhund?
I have to laugh because I know Molly can hear me just fine when I am calling her, but she is BULL-headed and stubborn and comes on her own sweet terms. {so your ol' guy, he might just be 'ignoring' you~ lol~kidding.

I took agility classes with our cocker years and years ago. Those were tons of fun.

We have some Japanese Popcorn, and I believe a few varieties of our colored corn can be used as Popcorn, but in general, they must be a LONG season corn that is used to dry out in the later year. (in other words, not for us northwesterners) I'll see how the Japanese stuff does.

I honestly would love to have some swaps going on though when the growing/harvest is over. I'd love to share some of my own beauties with others, especially such things like our Blue Potatoes. Had those for several years now, and had them passed down to us from some neighbors who have been growing them up in the hills for generations. They're the hardiest potato out here, beautiful rich purple coloration, and are the most delicious I've ever had!! Great for fries, mashed potatoes, etc. Never tried them baked though. We currently have a HUGE box full of "seedling" potatoes waiting to be planted for next year.

We sadly never got to save any Tomato seeds last year. Our tomatoes were having such a rough time with the poor weather and no greenhouse, then with the drought that pushed them further to their limits. When I finally got a greenhouse up, I had every single plant bearing fruit, but only got ONE tomato ripened and eaten out of all 40 plants. Really sad. They ended up all dying out due to cool temperatures. Lots of little unripe green tomatoes all over the place. . .

That one tomato was amazing though. Was a Brandywine. Amazing texture, delicious flavor. . . Aaah.
