a moment in my day.

Enroute to my parental-units today, I took a a moment (actually about 20 minutes) and stopped at this neighbors (2 miles away, from his house) and chatted with her about her plethora of chickens. She has about 40+ chickens, a mishmash of many breeds, ducks, turkeys, peahens, a goat, a blind horse etc.

I took a picture with my cellphone (someday I will remember how to get it from there to post) of what she referred to as a "silver phoenix" roo ..he was in all of his beauty, struttin like there were no tomorrow. Hims was B-YOU-TEE-FULLS!

She lives in Quilcene, WA. Over in Jefferson County, and near the foothills of the Olympics. Free ranging from sunup to sundown, w/o a worry in the world. Now, she has had some hawk issues a few years ago, but, ever since her english pitbull came to live with them, no more random visits from the local Accipitridae family. Plus she has about 4-5 roos of different backgrounds running about everso wary of possible predators.

It was quite fun to watch all the different breeds sharing ground space to scratch, stumps to pick bugs from, and running water to trod in. RIR's, Auracanas, Barred Rocks, Orpingtons, ducks of a multitude of variety, none of which I could say was one or another because I simply do not know.

Anyways, it was a fun-filled 20 minutes, a hopefully a small peek into our future here at foxdog.

thanks for reading.

Goodnight All! I'm hoping I'll be in a better mood when I wake up again. Better get going, DH is a grump when I got to bed later than him 'cause I wake him up and steal all the blankets.

Would you mind sending this advice to me also. My laptop runs so hot, I'm sure from dust and the keys are clogging ... No T or 1 key cuz I tried to work on it. Oh well..

Yes you do what a neighbor oughta do, but those kinda manners are sorely lacking sometimes.

I hope your CG will be better than before. After they do all the fixing on her she could have a few years added on to her life. Could be a blessing sneaking up on her.

Wed the 9th seems better for most people. I can make that one too. Third Place books is close enough for me.

Cherry rock is grit for grown chickens. Its about the size of a small to medium pea I suppose.

How about bringing some to the meet so I can see it. I've never heard of it.

Good morning everyone! It's a brisk 2 degrees here and I'm exhausted. The coyotes were really bad last night...so the dogs were going nuts...only saw two coyotes and one was pretty small. Couldn't get a shot off because they were standing in front of the horse pen.

Good morning! We must have sent our coyotes your way ... we've had problems with them in the past, but they have not been around much for the past 6 months.
