Okay, so since I'm sure plenty of you have experience with this, I'll go ahead and ask all -

The Monroe Show is only for one day. However, if I am to enter birds, I enter them on Friday, the day before, yes? If it is only one day, does that mean awards happen on the same day or do I have to stay a day longer? The last show was 2 days, the second day being for awards. . . So, theoretically, I can leave on Saturday this time?

I'm quite brand new to our shows out here, and would love a little advice on how things will work, so I can make a schedule to fit to it all.

Hello Everyone!

I am new to BYC and this space. I would like to know where I can buy Javas here in Washington. Actually I would like to know where good breeders are as we are going to be building our chicken coop as soon as we can here on Mt. Rainier (I live right at the gates in Ashford and we will have snow for the next 10 days). I am interested in Javas, Oppingtons, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Stars, Sussex, Welsummer and Wyandotte. I won't be getting some of each but these breeds seem to have the qualities I am interested in. Since I am new to raising chickens I plan on starting with 12, is that a good choice? I can't have anything that is too loud because I have a neighbor that would be a big problem over noise!

Honestly I think you should add Marans, Easter Eggers, or Ameraucanas to the list

Just having brown eggs is boring after a while. . . Add some blue, green, or dark reddish brown there.

Yes, you can check in your birds either Friday night or Sat morning, the actual hours are in the show catalog info.

Awards are after 3:30 on Saturday, then raffle awards, and then coop out. So yes, you could leave after the awards on Saturday.

That is basically it! Judging of the birds occurs in the morning but can take several hours. So you have most of the day to visit with other folks showing and of course BYC folks, check out all the birds, and then waiting for the awards announcements. If you do come over on Friday and spend the night, you might need to help set up some of tables/cages before you can coop in your birds. So bring a chair for yourself if you can, a small cooler of snacks and drinks, knitting or some other craft to keep your fingers busy or a good book, or just find folks to chat with!​

I'm pretty sure the Mods would have removed the post if they had caught it. I don't want to take any chances. It's up to us to keep our thread clean and spam free! It helps make the Mods job a bit easier if we do our own "Neighborhood Watch" and leave it to them to investigate!

One other thing in regards to the raffle items being donated. Evergreen Fairgrounds is a real stickler for not allowing any foods to be brought on site to be sold. I think I read in the catalog that NO food items can be donated for the raffle either. You can bring in your own lunch/snacks in a cooler though.

As far as lunch goes, the Thai place is really really good, but also really really small. So I don't think a large group could fit there.

Petosa's is closed.

For a group lunch location, I suggest Alfie's Pizza, they have a great HUGE salad bar, hot subs and pizza and they have PLENTY of open seating.

There's also a Mongolian Grill, Red Robin, Canyon's, Buzz Inn Steakhouse, Ixtapa and Mi Tierra for mexican food and lots of fast food joints.
