I blame the big meal that Miss Berber ate earlier in the day that she died. We fed her some leftover stew that day. She came to me later that night, and I knew that she wanted something. I just didn't figure out fast enough that she had bloat. She just kept standing very close to me. At about 11: pm that night I stopped and really looked at her. I knew instantly that she had bloat. We couldn't get her to the Vet fast enough. By the time we got to Auburn, and carried her into the 24 hour vet there, she was already brain dead. They would have been happy to have done surgery, but I knew that it was to late. Bloat happens typically to large breed dogs. The stomach some how twists inside them. If you can get them to a vet and surgery done with less than 30 minutes or so, then there is a chance that you can save the dog. I have also read that the younger dogs have a much better chance of survival than do older dogs. Miss Berber was 11 years old, and she is still my most favorite dog that has ever lived with us.

Thanks, I still do not know if feed before or after exercise.
Or can it happen with just a regular meal and no notable exercise ?
I have a full, I mean FULL gqf 1500 incubator and two small ones now for lockdown.............................

Hi Jupiter, I'm broodytood. I'm new to the site and just wanted to say Hi.

We have framework! Thank you for one good partially sunny day! The guys feel that with just a couple of more rain free days they can get the roof on, hardware cloth on the framework and walls for the hen house up. After that it's just a matter of details - linoleum floor, paint, roosts, nestboxes, etc. I'm overwhelmed but they seem to be having fun. It is interesting that with all the books, plans, photos, printed measurements I have available for their reference though, that I keep getting asked questions like, "so what are the dimensions of the nest boxes?" when all reference materials are right in front of them.

Oh, I'm not really complaining. You know I'm just grateful that they are putting so much effort into my little project.

Here's where we are so far. As I said, this is where DH wanted it to be, below our bedroom deck and right outside the family room. It is also right outside the garage door as well which should be convenient as we'll be storing feed and cleaning tools just a few steps away. Halleluja, I think it's actually going to happen.

Hi to you too Broodytood, it's such a great site here....so full of info, and quite a few of us in WA...I'm about 25 min south of Bellingham. I've got some family in Arlington and heard you got hammered with snow a few weeks back. I love snow, but yikes.

1. Yes, it can happen any time, for any reason, sometimes for no known reason at all.

2. Feed AFTER excercise, and after the dog has had time to cool down. Don't ever let the dog tank up on a bunch of water, especially right after heavy excercise.
