i had to have my boyfriend take me for emergency therapy shopping to the local quilt shop i found

the emergency? this guy who is in a few of the same classes as me just admitted he has the hots for me.... he is 56 and i am 21..... so i got totally creeped out while trying to remain calm in front of him. "where do you see our relationship going?" me:" uh... friends who will eventually graduate soon and so just a networking friendship. i am committed to my boyfriend of 3 years"

i texted my bf to come pick me up... went and bought fabrics and love this new store because it has Wizard of Oz prints i sooo want to buy.... but i don't know how to quilt yet. they had the cutest and best chicken prints with breeds and names (and actually accurate)

so any advice for my issue?

Most, even in flood, are sparkling clear due to clay soils and constant "flushing"'
Sparkling clean, clear and fantastic waterways & lakes here.
Wonderful drinking water, mostly soft.
You will love it.

That is great news that almost all are clear, but what stood out in your post was soft water. We don't drink the water that comes out of the faucet in Oskaloosa, we fill our 7 gallon water containers up at Wal-Mart. Soft water, cool.

From the head water guy in our town
"Our water comes from well down in the bottoms. Very high mineral content. This means HARD water. City of Lawrence shoots for a hardness of 100, ours is 325 +. This mineral content also carries a small amount of taste aswell.
"

My water comes from an Aquifer 1000 feet beneath the mountains. I belong to a teeny tiny water cooperative, and they brag their water is the cleanest in the nation. It is not fluorinated nor chlorinated, only filtered. The mineral content is so low that I must add calcium to our little swim spa. I can add it straight to my fish tank without any pre-treatment. Water in other places, even fairly local, all taste like pool water to me.

My BCM has laid only one egg, and that was the day after we brought her home. I too was thinking there may be something wrong, but she is behaving perfectly normal and does not seem to be in any distress. I felt just in case, not that I would know what to check for. she didn't feel any different than my other birds. Maybe it is just transplant shock, or maybe the breed are not reliable layers. The Sussex is laying fine. The Bantam Cochin has not laid an egg yet, but she and her roo are content with a new coop and a 10' X 10' covered run all to themselves. None of the birds appear to be in any distress to my untrained eye.

My BCM is not being picked on by the others (the Sussex is). The BCM was acceptesd fine into my flock and hangs out with them. She is not as good with people and runs from DD and I when we reach to them, where my hens run up and squat, and the Sussex follows me like a dog, but does not do the squat thing. The banties look to see what goodies we bear, and then decide if they will allow themselves to be pet or picked up.

The BCMs at my house are taking there sweet time to lay also this year. I didnt have them under a light is why. I wanted to let them have a time off this winter. They will lay but your right they dont lay eveyday. Plus they do need to get use to there new place and feel safe. As to her not comming to you that will take time and also I dont pick my girls up becasue you have to remember Im allergic to them. At my place they free range during the day on more than a acre and than tuck them self's in at night in the coop.
Ive never had a problem with them getting egg bound but this doesnt mean it cant happen.

I think it is just transplant shock - I don't add heat or light (or at least did not till I moved the chicks out there), and my birds were laying near daily, even during the shortest days of winter! That's wierd too. A few months back, when I was trying to choose a breed to raise for dark eggs, I read somewhere that marans don't lay as reliably as other breeds. I don't know if that is true or just one persons opinion. In any case, I'm intrigued by the color.

The banty laid her first egg today.

I'm a seller too but also a buyer and I totally understand wanting only females from both sides. Males are a dime a dozen. I occasionally will be looking for a replacement breeding roo but really, how many roos does one person need? Certainly not in the same numbers as the females. Males are surplus. I either give them away to people who process or auction. It's their fate. We can always hope they'll be worth something to somebody but the chances are slim. It's only what the market will bear which ain't much. Ha, can't imagine processing a Bantam. It does hardly seem worth it.

Oh, I know,.. but then I have to price to pay for the food etc for all the males until they are sexable (which in silkies can be significant amount of time). It does effect the price. For instance, I was selling some sexed 5-7 week old welsummer chicks that were extras and had them priced as pairs. Had someone wanting only girls, so I said I would knock a couple dollars off the pair price, but that's all I can do. The reason? If they took two females I would have two males that I would either have to cull at a size when they couldn't be processed, or put more feed into until they could be processed. I **HATE** to cull a bird that I can't eat because it feels like such a waste- a waste of a life. I can cull if I am going to eat it, it makes me feel like the life had some meaning.

I know, twisted logic, but still- I could never be one of the breeders that breaks necks of healthy birds and throws the birds in the garbage or the burn pile. Sick birds, well, that's another matter entirely.

I hear ya, I feel the same way..
