Fun visiting with CL today, despite the saddness in her life right now... she is always cheerful and giving of her knowledge. Now her dog is a different matter!

OK -- I need advice

my neighbor sold his four chickens to someone, and donated his small coop (4x4x4 with two nest boxes) and chickenwire mini-run (4x8) to me

how much cleaning and sanitizing do I need to do, before allowing my month-old chicks in there ?

he was using clean dry straw for bedding (I have cleared all of that out already), and the plywood that the coop is made of, smells "new" still ... he had heavy plastic under the straw and the floor looks pristine

these chicks sure want out of the brooder (conjoined cardboard boxes in our upstairs shower)

Here's what I think: the first place chickens generally go after hatching is out into a big, nasty, stinky barnyard! : ) So a little clorox splashed around and then hosed out will do you fine.

Hurray! I ACTUALLY have two hens setting! It's a freaking miracle!!!!! Just put 8 pumkin hulsey eggs under my silky cross which left just 2 left over. Hurray!

my hatch that was shut off for about 12 hours is in lockdown as of yesterday, this afternoon there are already 4 pips! yaaay baby orps!

Vitamin D and a light box may help.

I bought him some Vit D but he doesn't take it and I know he wouldn't bother with a light box. Wondering if they sell UV light bulbs for lamps ? I could put it in the lamp he sits next to.

Wouldn't it be great if they could instal the UV lights in the tv screen?

Cackleberry::::::: Your in box is full & I tried to answer your questions.
CR"" so good ta see ya!
I am doing OK, lonely but...
T::: I have a 550 egg incubator and a little styro fan forced EMPTY & at your service.
Gotta go, love & hugs to all!!!

And I want to add that Boldogkennel (Diane) is the sweetest! How she has made me laugh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and I so needed the laugh, have her tell the story about the goat & turkey while her Mom was visiting..sheeeesh whar=t a riot.
I called DH and "they" are all out to dinner at a restaurant (guess who has to pay for it????) and he said he'd call me later.
So the family is in remembrance, and also relieved Mom no longer is in pain...later guys

I still need to hear T-Hi's story of the La Har drill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 cups of unscented bleach in a empty milk jug, fill with water to make 1 gallon of SOLUTION> put some of this solution in a spray bottle & spray everything, let dry, do not rinse.

And don't forget next Saturday is Fuschia day at Fred Meyer. They used to be 50 cents apiece for 2" pots. Last year they were 5 for 3 dollah. And if you bring empty pots they will pot up to 5 or 6 pots with their potting soil for free if you show the receipt. If you go down a day or two in advance you can have a better choice of plants and they will still pot them up on Saturday. It's usually cold and the wait is a long line, but still free soil. Then, it's for sure better if you can hang them in a green house. They also have geraniums for the same price. I at least go down to get the cheap fushcias but don't brave the lines and cold. I love having my porch filled with fuschias and have one flower bed full of geraniums. Sure gonna have to pen up the free ranging ladies pretty soon. or no nice garden for me.
