The drumming birds at least will only be doing it until they attract a mate. The annoying dogs bark all year round!

The roo I got from RFF does not crow very loud. DH laughs when he tries, he leans in with his ear "Really, that's it? You are the wimpiest roo!" He doesn't crow often ... a few times in the morning, and sometimes during the day, but it's rare. Funny, I only hear him in the daytime when DS is out in the yard. When I am out there, he doesn't bother. He'll make funny clucking noises and come looking for snack hand-outs.

LOL! JR's have no clue how tiny they are! The people who own this JR ran it over last fall. She chases all the cars and people who come onto our street, including her owner. It happened right in front of my driveway, and the poor dog dragged herself onto some bushes in my yard. I did not dare go to it because it is a mean dog, but the lady called her husband to come get the dog and bring it to the vet while she continued on and brought her kids to school. It took her DH about 20 minutes before he collected the suffering dog. The vet repaired the dog, and it still hobbles around and barks at everything, but the dog can no longer make it all the way up the hill to my place, so it is not so noisy anymore. I hate when people don't take care of their animals. Even my DH who hates that JR with a passion was upset about its suffering, and P.O.d at the neglectful owners. Prior to that incident he'd always joke about running the dog over.

The people in my street say they have so many dogs and they let them run loose so the bears and coyotes won't come areound and it makes the neighborhood safer! What B.S.!!! I have 2 big dogs. They don't run loose through the neighborhood, but I fenced almost 2 acres of our property and let them run around in the yard frequently. The bears still come around and eat all the fruit from our trees

My 2 big dogs stay at home too because we paid the $ for perimeter collars. The neighbor dog comes over and tears up the beauty bark in my flower beds. And I get to clean up the mess. It was right there the day we put our chickens in the run for the first time. So I called and told them. He assured me that his dog would not be back. Time will tell. So I'm gonna string up electric wire just in case. I can't be home 24/7. We got the one that the gal said would make you see stars so I think it will work on a Lab. Only if he gets too close!

What kind of roo was he? I wonder if it's just him or if all roos like him are quiet? Sounds cute!!

And if you bring empty pots they will pot up to 5 or 6 pots with their potting soil for free if you show the receipt. You are a gardener after my own heart. I love the sale. I mostly do geraniums these days. I bought some very large ceramic pots for the patio this year. I got in trouble for that, but at 40.00 each they were like half price.

From Costco? I saw some fine stuff there today. I never get out so was all excited about the garden stuff when I ran thru on my hurrying way to get home. Had a CT on my chest to check stuff there and an MRI to check on a meningioma. So anxity to get the results next month. But costco was sure a fun reward for being in the donuts and hearing the big hammering.

Good luck with the neighbor dog. I don't understand how people can be so selfish to think it is fime for their dogs to be out destroying other peoples property. Imagine their reaction hed your kids gone over to their place and pulled up the plants in their garden!

We bought at Innotek system that works great for my I-90 dog (solar-powered mutt), but not so good for Shasta. She tests it every day because her fur grows thick and fast. Also, when the bears enter, she doesn't care if she's getting shocked, she'll still dig to get under the fence and after that bear! We had to put another fenced area withing the fenced yard (I though the 10'X10' Kennel was too samll). Now when she digs in the smaller yard, I fill the holes with cement! I wish I could focus her digging - like to where I need to plant some shrubs!

I just put him in my avatar - I think he has a little frostbite on the tips of his comb. He's a bantam cochin - RFF called the pair Calico Bantam Cochins; not sure if it is the same as Mille fleur, but I do know they are really cute! I have a few eggs that I want to hatch (or find someone to hatch them for me). I have 2 semi-broody hens, but I don't think I will trust them with these eggs. Wish I knew if they were fertile, my roo does not seem to get much action. Maybe he doesn't have much of an Oedipus Complex. I was looking at RFF's website, and I think they may be mother and son, either that or she has another similar looking roo.

Do you have an incubator? Or know of someone close that does? I would do it for you but I'm awful far away. I would hatch all year if I knew they were going home to someone. Right now I'm hatching and brooding in my family room/office/desk area as we do not have anywhere else to do it at this time. It's not so bad until they get about 3 weeks old. Then I'm ready for them to be out of the house(or at least out of the family room!)

Right now I'm hatching and brooding in my family room/office/desk area as we do not have anywhere else to do it at this time. It's not so bad until they get about 3 weeks old. Then I'm ready for them to be out of the house(or at least out of the family room!)

Maybe I'll bring some your way next time I drive down that way. I'm curious to see what they will look like - They are not like my buff orpingtons where every chick will look just the same!

I'm glad CR is having a fun time finding his creative side and making all sorts of cool things, but I sure miss chatting with him here.

So I have a new conundrum. When I put the eggs in lockdown tonight, I found a Marans egg(very dark) that looks like it incubated with the air cell down. I only candled on day 7 and thought I had it right side up but like I said it's very, very dark.Even now on day 18 it's very hard to see the air cell. So what is the chance that the chick will survive? Can it reposition itself this late in the game? Just curious if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks in advance!
