watch out when she gets feathers and is all shiny...then you have to grab her by the feet cuz they are not so shiney....she is awfully cute, is her name lilac ?

I made dang sure my ducks are not the shiny kind before I take them home. Problem is my blues will hatch 1/4 blacks...like shinny Daffy. So they go on Craigslist...or Bonney Lake.

Awe naw, even the black feathers are shinny. What is that about????
You guys are killing me. What ever happened to regular fawn & white runners?

Are you serious you have jess black shiny eggs in your bator? What about brown eggs? Those are not girls? Brown ducks are good....they are less shiny.

4312, the picture of the tiny chick next to the hen's butt is the funniest and sweetest thing I've seen all week!

I love it too. Mom is a bantam cochin that went broody and I stuffed some barred rock eggs under her. out of 6, only 2 were fertile and they both hatched. So this little guy is one of them. They are exactly 1 week old today. Oh, you can see she/he has feathered legs, that would be from daddy...he is 1/2 BR and part cochin bantam and ?.

Toni, I was just going to ask what happens to Daffy when she molts.
gig.gif
Guess she just molts huh? Mo is getting new feathers in. Very blue looking feathers. wonder what the adult feathers will look like.
Is Daffy registered in the race? My DS is considering entering MO.

Your DH isn't bring his dad back with him is he?

Oh Lord NO!
barnie.gif

He is going to "travel" he said (FiL) and come visit us, and my parents, then off to Spokane to visit family there.
We've no where for him to stay here.. I am looking into a trailer Kaneke has, have not heard from her lately, maybe she is off somewhere fun for the weekend, I hope.

nope, was helping DH paint the inside of the crate/coop -- since several people told me I would be smart to paint the floor before installing the vinyl (that will extend a foot or so up the walls too)

DH got a great deal on a gallon of paint that was returned to Wallyworld, wrong color or something (offwhite, go figure)

DH has a big pile of chopped blackberry vines, in front of, and around, the Airstream, so I can't get in there to measure until he moves them

he was planning to site the run back there -- I told him no because
1) more exposed to the wind, than where I had them put the coop (in the "wind shadow" of the house)
2) more little wild birds frequent that area, they stay away from the house

however if I can get a roll of fence wire within my budget, I will let the chicks forage through the chopped up mess

chicks discovered they could squeeze under the bottom of the "screen room" which I was using temporarily, to let them get out on the grass ... wasn't quick enough to head the little pullet off when she dived under, suddenly

A HUGE shout out and GINORMOUS Thank You to Salina/RedReiner !!!! She let me borrow her incubator and that has saved all the extra eggies so there will be more babies!
wee.gif

Monicas incubators were full, so she said come get some eggs and squeeze in what you can, even though mine was half full. I got about 15 into my bator, but now with Salina's bator being used too, all 35 Lav/Split Ameraucana eggs have a chance!!!! And then I stuck in 7 Lav/Split Orp eggs I was collecting and planning to put in at my first candling if I had room. And 4 more Crele OEGB's. DD and I noticed today one of her OEGB Crele pullets hatched out last fall is missing.

No sign of it being taken, she was in the run/coop, not free ranging last we saw and we don't see any evidence of her being taken. So I let her put a few of her eggs in too.

Batch 1 due April 27th:
6 BBS Orps under Broody Mom
6 BBS Orps in Brinsea
13 Serama eggs in Brinsea

Batch #2 due May 1st:
35 Lav/Split Ameraucana
7 Lav/Split Orps
4 Crele OEGB
