I am hoping that people will come up and introduce themselves at the big show. I am going to wear a name plate with my name and BYC name on it. Hope to meet lots of you there!

Guys!!!! I just did the coolest thing ever and it took me 1.5 hours to make!!!!
Because I discovered Spoonflower.com
and Because there were no chicken fabrics i really liked. i read the instructions.... I opened my photoshop cs5 and started messing around with one of my chicken photos.... and like stated 1.5 hours later i have designed my own chicken print.
CR I can provide you with a "stencil" of the rooster file if you would like to use it for cutting out your metal art.

so what do you think for a first time attempt at making my own "potholder" print?

Awwh don't blame yourself for it. For reasons beyond my chick-hatching knowledge sometimes they just never seem to wake up even though they're fully formed or sometimes they aren't strong enough to get out. For chickens I wait till about day 23, if no movement then I do a float test, keep the viables and give them another day. Sometimes I'm hopeful and give them 25 days but haven't ever had them take that long to hatch

what is the float test?

And thank you everyone for your words of wisdom. It has helped me feel better.

Oh, and DD said a prayer over the dead chicks. It was cute.

Float tests a life saver! (literally) You want to get water at about 100 degrees and make sure it's at least a little deeper than the eggs height. Put your eggs in and let them settle. When they float high, like 30-40% of the egg is above the water it means that you had something but it died, if it floats low with just a little of the egg above the water then you have a keeper! Sometimes they rock back and forth, that little guy is about to hatch! And if it sinks, it was never fertile. It all has to do with the gases and such in the air sack. I'd look on youtube for a video so you can see what the eggs look like when they're viable and non viable. Also don't float test unless they're late. Messing with the eggs too much can kill em

6 chickens bathed so far- more to do tomorrow. I have the FINEST show chickens on the planet...until I bathe them. Then I discover all sorts of hitherto unnoticed flaws. Sigh. It's hard to properly condition a show bird while still allowing them to live a happy life as a chicken.

Amen sister!! That's why my Faverolles only make it to the Fall shows as youngsters! After that, the foot feathering is WAY too far gone to show the following Spring!

Don't get me wrong, love family outings, just love them more when then can include a chicken show!!! Hey we have the big membership and can get 2 in free, if your interested!

Thanks for the offer. We just bought the grandparents package...2 adults and 4 kids! We only have one kid, but he likes to bring friends.
So fun!
Are you going to stay the night in Portland?

No, we will be coming down in the morning. Only an hour and 20 min drive for us. Too hard to stay over w/ 6 Kids!!!
