Gosh I feel so bad for you, I know the frustration.
Hang in there!
Try hard not to let it "get to" you....I really think Hospice should be with them more often..maybe hospice can convince them to move ?
Other wise, have siblings and maybe you all can get together & force them into assisted living ?
It may be all you can do is force them.

We finally convinced them to move to a residence about a year ago, but they're still classified as independent living. They need to have their status changed so they can get more services. They shouldn't even have to change apartments. It's a nice place about a mile from me. It has independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing all in one place, so if one needs skilled nursing the other can visit easily since it's just in another wing.

Im not sure why you have the blood spots, I'll try to find out information and let you know.. The spot are from her spray can

but no really they have a sprayer or so they say that puts the darker color on the egg and the spots.
Last year I gave my in-laws some nice dark eggs and what did they do. They called and said hay we washed the eggs and gave them a good scrub and they arent dark anymore...

The blood spots are called "egg meat" and are caused by tiny ruptured blood vessels in the ovary when the bird's ovary releases an egg.
It is harmless, and does not mean the bird is necessarily ill.
In the big egg farms, they high power candle all eggs before they sell them to toss out any eggs with "egg meats'...to pet food factories.
It can be something that just happens as the bird grows, or maybe she was frightened when laying ?
In any event, it is fine to eat.

Unfortunately, all but one egg from her has been bloody, and not just one small spot. I can't imagine that she is frightened every day, she seems to be a pretty calm bird, and unlike Luna, was never picked on by the rest of the flock when she moved here last month. She is top of the pecking order while Luna is at the bottom. Luckily Alex does not mind eating them. I can deal with 1 or 2 small spots, but these spots are very dark and cover 1/4 or more of the yolk. You have to mix sausage in with the egg to hide it

I was the hospice caretaker of my MIL back in 2001. She was insistent that a stranger did NOT come in to help. So I took FMLA and we worked out a wage. I could not just do it for free with no income for a year. Plus I was cheaper than having a in home nurse. She passed in Novemeber of 2002. It was a life changing experience.

The moral to the story is= maybe you have a family member that can help. Grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins .........

Maybe it's the Italian part of me. Mi Familia!!!!

These W & BW chicks pipped on March 3rd.

Ok I wasnt far off then. March 3rd puts then at just under 8 weeks old. Thanks Chickielady!

Wow, she sure sounds like a precocious hussy !
lol.png

Her eggs should get bigger, and fast.
What color was it ?
Should be brown..to maybe a pinky-brown..she is half wyandotte , mamma was a wyandotte "biddy" from Cheryl
lol.png

One day, all our chickens may be related !!!!!!!
lol.png

Well right there explains the Hussy and attitude! Those old biddies were top of the flock order! And if she lays anything like her mamma, you'll get plenty of eggs!

LOL....we will be like second cousins. It was about the size of the cochin hen I have...and it was brown like the BRs. She is funny. Loves attention...even from us. The first few times the roo actually beat her up because he did not really know here...but she kept flashing ankle and running whenever he sang his goody song...he came around. She seldom leaves his side.

lol Could you post a pic of chcikielady and my ganchick? Im curious how she looks, wonder how much she looks like her mamma!

so far I can pick out those two biddies out of Chickieladys flock pics! Loved them, and so glad that she took them home.

Im here! Feel like crud, "stupid sinuses" DD is still alseep, poor little dear. She passed out around 9PM last night, got her up at 6 to take DH to work, back home by 7, and she's been out the entire time. Figured with as crappy as she is feeling I would let her sleep until she has had enough rest. Her little body will tell her when its time to get up.

Its really to bad that your little nieces mom and dad don't teach her things like that. My DD has been counting since the day she started to talk. Knows her ABC's, counts to 25, and can read some of her books. They're little brains are ripe for planting information when they are that young! My DH's co-worker is working on teaching Chloe spanish. Maby by the time she is 4-5 she can be my interpreter!

The only other languedge I can understand is Tagalo, and thats only in the spoken form, can't speak a dang lick of it anymore, but I still understand most of it. I can also understand and speak Pigeon English, mix of hawiian and english, trying so very hard to learn spanish, but struggling to remember what the right words are. lol

Anyways back to what I was originally typing... I'm glad your niece has you to teach her when you can. Its much beter than nothing!

Accepting advice from one's grown offspring is tough, but, to me, having the pros make non-negotiable demands is more damaging to the ego. From what you've said about your Dad over the years, though, I don't see how you could have done more than you have.

Just popping in to wish everyone a HAPPY EASTER!!!

And welcome to all the new folks!!!

((((((((((Hallerlake)))))))))) It's so hard to deal with that kind of thing. I'm so sorry. I hope you have some support for yourself during this time as it does take it's toll dealing with it all the time. Hang in there!

Had a very busy last few days chicken/bird wise! Met up with Robin/Chickielady to get some beautiful black Ameraucana's and it was lovely to meet your kids!!! And always a pleasure to see you and Gary and speak chicken talk!!!! And the chickees are settling in nicely.

Then we had just found a hawk in our backyard with a broken wing prior to meeting with Robin, and had it in the car with us so they got to take a peak at it as well. Turns out it was a Sharp Shin Hawk that had been shot through it's wing right near it's body. We took it to 2nd Chance Wildlife Rehab. in Snohomish after popping in to the Pilchuck Emergency Vet center to see if they could help. They were sure it would live, but not sure it would go back to the wild.

And I got two new lovely Lavender Orp pullets from Mark/Whidbey on Friday. His son was kind enough to drive them over to Lake Stevens for me to pick them up and they are doing great and have even given me an egg!

Then last night I candled the Serama's from RedReiner, and 8 went into lock down and looked wonderful at candling! Lost one more to a blood ring. But the 8 we could see were all moving like crazy swimming around in there.

And then I held off putting in Monicas Marans eggs until last night, so today is day 1 for them so hatch day will be 5/14. I also added 4 more of our Olive Eggers and 3 more of my Lav/Split Orps.

Now I need to do a bird shuffle and move the teenagers out of the main brooder box in anticipation of the Serama's hatching, and then I have more eggs hatching on May 1st.

So I need to get rid of some birds. If anyone is interested in any of these, please PM me and let me know!

1 yr old Lavender/Self-Blue Bantam Cochin rooster. He is not a breeder. He has not mated with any of the pullets I have in his pen and he has had many months being the only roo in that pen. So I am giving up on this project and he is available. His tail feathers are a little bleached out from the sun and yellowing. But he is beautiful! And he does a good job taking care of his girls, clucking to them when he finds treats and what-not.

1 Blue and 1 Black pet quality Bantam Cochin hens hatched this time last year.

1 blue OEGB/Bantam Cochin cross hen

1 Lavender Orpington Cockerel hatched last August. I have two and only need one.

I may have 1 Lavender Ameraucana Cockerel also hatched last August. He was spoken for awhile ago and I need to follow up and see if they still want him. If not, he's available.
