and lets not forget that we DRINK BLEACH in our drinking water, and swim in it if you go in any public swimming pools/jacuzzi's/hot tubs etc..
wink.png

Bolddog, i have heard of that too-- very dilute in a spritzer?

Absolutely! I forgot about that! ( I haven't lived in a place where we get city water for a while, mines a well) And I haven't been swimming for a while either but, that's right! I guess it would depend on the dilution!! I mean she didn't say she poured bleach ON the bird!! Poor kid!
hide.gif

She did say it was enough to make the feathers dry and brittle, so it was a lot more concentrated than what you will find in pool water. 8 minutes in a pool would not do that. It must be painful on the poor birds skin. I hope she rinsed the bird off well after applying the bleach. I used creme bleach once to try and fade the hairs on my arm, and it was really uncomfortable. Due to stinging, I could not leave it on long enough for it to do a decent job fading the hairs, and my arms were red and puffy afterwards. I feel terrible for her, but worse for the hen.

Most of the time if you have to spell b...a...t...h in front of the dog it's because they hate them! That's so cute!

Yeah all I have to do is tell Quincy " you are dirty" and he is gone to the tub! He really is awesome! And does such a good job keeping track of DW.

My Samantha was the same way, I swear the dog could read my thoughts.
Even a glance her way she could comprehend what I was thinking.
In the bath, I could tell her "No shaking" and she WOULD NOT SHAKE!!!
I told her "NO SHAKING" all the way to the towel, she would jump out of the bath tub, no shaking all the way outside through the bamboo flooring....and when we got out to the patio, I would say "OK!" and she would shake like hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man I loved that dog!

Molecular Biology?

I'd do it! That's the field I worked in for 10 yrs until I has DS. Too much has changed in the past 12 yrs, and I've turned old and rusty. I might not be very good anymore.

I don't think my post was yelly, was it? I've done the same thing, and ended up with no skin on my hands and a cow with dermititis, and I gave better alternatives (and somebody quoted my post and recommended WISK which is what I was using that was such a bad idea).

Added note: no gate util tomorrow, they had a propane leak at the Del's in Tumwater. EEK! My husband works about a hundred feet away from there!

nope yours was pretty helpful too..

it was the other posters that were being kind of mean.. I noticed our WA peeps were not being rude...

I think everyone has done an oopsie they learned from! best to share that knowledge right? lol
I use oxyclean on my white cochins feetsies, but only on the feather tips (and sometimes on the feather tips on their chest too) but try not to get it on their skin. It IS very drying, my own skin dries out with it. They free range and are always really really dirty, that along with a little dawn on that area seems to whiten them up.

YIKES on that leak! Your husbands job is not in danger is it?

omygoodiness, you wanna know MY secret dumb blonde oopsie??? If ya'll promise not to

me--it was really really dumb. I was putting in the goat fence, dug a big ol' hole for the gate post, pounded T-bars etc etc.. forgetting all the while that we have FREEKIN HUGE GAS LINES RUNNING THROUGH OUR PROPERTY... the gate post missed (if it actually isn't right above it) the main line into the house by INCHES. When I thought to Self, before adding more fence posts, I should call 1-800 where's the gas lines... they marked up the yard all pretty.. and i fainted when I saw how close the gate post was to the gas line mark. duh. My angel kept me from blowing myself up I think.......

there is a picture of it somewhere on my blog--how close it is..

edited to add my own

http://bearfoothollow.blogspot.com/2010/04/some-spring-stuff-going-on-around.html in the first picture... sheesh.

Did you see the HUGE MONSTEROUS GAS EXPLOSION in San Bruno California Last Year ?????
OMG, an entire half the community blew up & burned Out OF Control, unable to shut the gas off as so much pressure reserve was in the pipe line............our old neighborhood, and DH's childhood home a few feet from where the blast occured, and overlooking the fire.
Glad his folks moved a few years earlier...............

Would one soak one's own head in bleach? Might be a good starting question.
big_smile.png

I don't think she actually said she put the chickens head in bleach. She said she added some bleach to the water but did not say how much. Could have been minimal like what most people drink in chlorinated water? Who knows. She did say she put bleach on the feathers so can't really say how much actual bleach got on the chickens skin? I do think the berating she received was a bit much. Makes a person never want to ask a question.

http://www.westvet.com/collibacilliosis.htm

It is also recommended in the winter issue of the SPPA journal, by Dr Charles Everett, any one wanting a copy of the journal, PM me & send me your e-mail address as it is an adobe file, 12 page document.

Wow! I just read it! I bet she does not dare reply to her post anymore! I'm sure she was not trying to hurt her bird, and we all make mistakes, but wow, what a stunning lack of common sense!

As my father likes to say, "Half the population has below average intelligence."

More, like 3/4 of the population, and that not only explains the attention deficet, but the National Deficet as well......................

You're right, she did not say that. I totally read it wrong and over reacted! And now that I have taken my big size 10 foot out of my overzealous mouth, I'm going to use it to kick my self in the backside a good one in hopes that my mouth will heed the warning!!!
big_smile.png

Don't beat yourself up....I mis read also. we all do it and you were only concerned for the birds. Take it easy on yourself. How I read it though was that the feathers were yellow...wouldn't the bleach turn them yellow? But on the other hand....I put a small amount of bleach in my bird's drinking water. No one really knows how exactly what she did.
