quick question
today is day 7 on my batch of 30 test eggs of assorted crosses from my own flock
I will be leaving back to WSU (for finals) tomorrow afternoon.
I won't be here for day 10 to candle.
Would it be too early to candle for duds tonight?
what is a good site for checking to see if the air cells look the right size for this far along.
humidity is stable at 55% i do not think i will add a sponge at hatch time. from what i have read this seems to be the overlap of humidity for incubating and hatching...
but i do want to check to make sure they won't drown... but not sure how i would reduce the humidity unless i had the cabinet opened or maybe try opening another plug?
the other day when i tested out my new candler (cool lite) that mom surprised me with i saw some random eggs had solid eye development... but a few eggs seemed to be a little behind on development.....

The one egg that i thought was a double yolker is not (which mom said she has never cracked a double from it) but is progressing just fine.... this is a dinosaur egg.... i can barely have it fit in the slot of the egg carton in the bator.... i wonder how big the chick will be that hatches.... though it would suck if the one genetic influence in this is a bantm rooster... how weird would that be?

I think out of all the birds I have around here Starlings are THE single most disliked!

We had a pair come back and rip open an area in my eves, they are now nesting in it. I thought for sure that putting up a new pannel after stuffing the hole they created with steel whool, would keep them out. NO! That didnt work! They managed to get back in there between my double roof! Now there is a nest again. How on earth do I get rid of them!!! I dont even want to think about the mess that will be found once we can get IN that area of the roof... Im sure its full of all sorts of nasty stuff, and cant be good for us.

Am I gonna have to wait until they are done nesting, and try to close it up again more securely? Or is there something I can do about it now?

Are starlings ugly birds? We had some that use to do the same thing.

They are BLACK AND SHINE-NEE.

That is the most awesome news today!!
Lots of lemon grass coming your way.

I'm making coconut lemengrass soup right now, only I did not have time to go to Bellevue/Kirkland for lemongrass paid $5.99 for 4 short pieces (maybe equal to 1.5 stalks from the asian grocery) and $3.69 per can of coconut milk ... I really need to make a trip to the Cash and Carry & Uwajimaya.

You need to make a trip to CHINATOWN girlfriend.

How do you bookmark a post? I want to save it too because I'm getting an incubator from blueducklings tomorrow which I am going to try not to use until next year (or maybe I'll pick up some BCM eggs from zgoatlady.... but I first need to rid myself of a few roos.)

Actually, I printed off what she posted and bookmarked the page she posted.

Before he hammers anything down, make sure everything in the coop still works. My chicken doors from the coop to the run slide up and out from the inside to open the coop. DH installed the poop boards this weekend, but on one sire he forgot to put the door back in the track before he put the poop boards in, so now I can't close the door! At night I have been leaning a piece of plywood against the opening, holding it in place with some wood scraps! I'm going to cut some new doors and hinge them on the outside!

I have several pallettes and scrap wood for anyone who is interested.

I sure hope not! She almost never leaves the nest, so I go in several times a day to bottle-feed her water. She has food in front of her, but makes a mess of the nest if I put water in the neting box. It is a short hop away to the water dispenser.

Who has new chicks for sale this week? I would like 2 to put under my broody. BCM, EE, Ameracauna, RIR, Sussex, Australorps .... anything?
