Oh Im not concerned about the Strangles outbreak, its the EHV that we are watching out for. But I will do more research, and ask the vet later today when we haul the horses up there for their shots.

Ive been MIA due to horse stuff! lol And finishing that darn coop. BUT it done!

Seven years is, in fact, remarkably old for a Dell. I don't talk about politics, religion, or Mac vs PC online but I will say that our Macs have lasted an average of eight years, and most times they are replaced because it's easier than doing the memory upgrade for a new OS. My husband is the sysop for a Winserve server farm, and does tech support for a bunch of Dell PCs and assorted laptops. He's managed Microsoft OS environments since he was at CCC starting 26 years ago, and he likes coming home to a relatively virus-proof machine.

hmmm -- that is sure going to shut down Stewarts Arena at the end of our road -- usually MASSES of horses there all weekend

jump-course acreage a little further away, also several neighbors have horses in yard --- dunno if Thurston County is included in that shutdown but hope they all hear about it -- not sure our local vets will be as pro-active as yours and call all clients ...

lots and lots of horse people have moved to the area around here, what a disaster

I tell myself I am going to finish putting up the fence wire around the expanded chicken run today -- nice day, good supper last night, have been making the sticky-willy tea and I think it is helping my lack-of-energy

chicks are getting better at following me over to the chicken tractor --- a couple of them actually flew AHEAD of me and ran into it; little bit more difficult getting them to go back to old run and coop in late afternoon --- they went around the backside instead of in through the hatch, had to "herd" them back and pick up and carry a couple of them when they acted brainless

Yelm is about the horsiest place in western Washington, and has been for decades. I was wondering, too, if it's an area wide or county-by-county shutdown: if the weather's good, there's also usually hundreds of horses up in the Black Hills on a weekend in May.

computer-wise --- IF you know a friendly geek, find out which brand/make/style of computer uses "common" parts rather than specific-to-style/brand parts ... or have that geek build you up one using standard components --- then you can add memory or upgrade by simply adding them, rather than buying a whole new computer

tower I am using was built up TWENTY years ago or more, by computer lab at community college -- has been upgraded every three or four years to use faster processor or more memory ---

one shut-down-won't-restart problem can be traced to DUST that accumulates on the hard drive --- I did have that happening a couple weeks ago -- since I am squeamish about opening up computer case, took it to local geek who has been handling our computers the last ten years or so ... he vacuumed it out and now works great again --- blame our cats, dogs, and the big chicken farm upwind of us ..... also the big hay farm / feeder pasture likewise upwind

anyone in eastern WA(Spokane area) looking to get rid of an older chick or two? Or even a younger hen close to laying?
I'm down to 2 chicks and 2 ducks and want 3 or 4 chickens, and would rather buy from someone here if possible.
Last feed store 2 we got didn't make it, not sure why. They were fine one day and the next morning found them doing agonal breathing and unresponsive to stimuli at all.

No been a tech too long to freak out, just bad in the respect that like you say it takes biosecurity and I KNOW there are lots of idiots out there that don't do that, my horse haven't gone any where so I think were good! NO worries!! you guys just be safe up there !!!

The only thing that kinda worries me, is directly across the street at the Smythe Cedar mill, they are also a hard core rodeo family. They JUST got back from out of state right before we all got the notice. What I'm wondering is, if we are close enough together, that something could be carried over from there place to mine. I wouldnt think so, as we dont intermingle our horses together, but there is always that anoying "if."

yea.... I get that!! I'm really lucky I am surrounded on three sides by Asparagus, corn and ?? don't know if it's wheat or hay?? and my horses are on the far side away from my stupid neighbor, who only has half a dozen calves that survived his neglect this winter!!

Well word came down from the State Vet asking all showgrounds to shut down as a precaution. So Im guessing that its a state wide warning. If my information is correct this originated in Utah at a cutting horse show. I heard the other day, and keep in mind that this is word of mouth, so rumor. That the California state line is closed to equine traffic. Again I do not know that this is fact, but the western states, and even western Canada are all under a precaution ary warning. So I guess it really boils down to every indeviduals personal desicions. I know my horses wont be going anywhere but the local trails. Kinda makes me glad that I dont board my horses at a barn.
