Black Copper Marans

My Australorps looked similar as a chick.

ok yes, now I notice the feathering on the feet. So mine must be an astrolorp because it looks similar, but no feet feathering.

So many cute babies! I am jealous! My 12-13 week old Light Brahma has a crop problem. The vet flushed it Friday, and still nothing will go through. I have given her Veg. oil and massaged but it doesn't seem to help. It makes me so sad to see her basically starving to death. I am calling the vet again tomorrow to see what he thinks, but I am not holding out much hope at this moment. If anyone has any great advice it would be appreciated, but I think she ate something she shouldn't have and it's stuck, not letting food pass to her gizzard. SHe is so light and weak, I don't even know if she would make it through a surgery. I am feeding her baby bird formula for now, because it seems to pass through a little more easily. I have had the worst luck with hatchery chicks this year. Next time I am getting all babies from some of my great BYC friends!!

Hope you all enjoyed the nice weather we have had this weekend. I know I have!

Are they actually fused or just crooked?

Fused - there is a webbing between that pulls the longer toes down. I saw the same on some other BCM's when I was searching the BCM thread. Some people separate, some let them frow like that. I think I will separate, but I don't know when to do it. I guess it is a bloody process, so I would like the shick to get a bit stronger first.

Do it as soon as you can... earlier better...
get a quick stop powder to stop bleeding and a small pair of sharp scissors/snips
snip the webbing and use powder to stop bleeding
make sure bedding stays clean until healed.

least that is what I would do.

I've never had this issue but maybe oil and hang upside down while massaging? to empty out?
I noticed if my young chicken just ate and I grab them by the feet upside down (when I'm moving ornery young roosters who are fighting in the roo coop) they tend to lose their lunch.

You use zip ties for bands? I never thought of that. I tried feather sexing and I banded the babies to see how I faired in my "guessing". The bands were small and the chicks grew fast. the next band size up was almost too big for some of the babies and some of them fell off. I never thought of using zip ties. This is a geat idea.

Hello, my name is Christina and Im new to this forum. I was hoping someone here would be able to tell me how many chickens I can own in the city of Tacoma, pierce county? I have been told from 5 to no limit, so Im really confused. I've tried looking up the information but they sure don't make finding info that easy. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks.....

Great Baby Belly Photo!

You have passed the most critical weeks, you are in the home stratch and will spend most of it in search of better air-conditioning. (Or you could just hop over to the wet side of the state).

I know--I told DH yesterday that it was about time to invest in another "window shaker" A/C unit for our livingroom.

So it gets hot enough to need A/C?
