Oh good grief! What a busy morning! Last minute preperations for tonights BBQ/Bon fire. Had to work 1st thing this morning, also do some shopping, and pick up my Moms meds from Group Health. Got home, fired up the smoker, and started the brisket... BBQ baked beans are going, house is clean, now to get the lumber pile moved away from the firepit! I will be OH so irate if ANY of the lumber is burned tonight!

Anyways back to the grind I go!

I had a friend of mine hatch some Barnevelder eggs from Royce in Duvall, I think that's where he lives. I'm excited 4 hatched

I didn't want many as I can't breed where we live & I already have 6 chickens didn't want to over load my coop. So I only ordered 6 eggs & he gave 2 more just in case. Glad he did since only 4 made it. They just hatched this morning. I will pick them up tonight. I'm going to see if my broody hen will take care of them

, if not then I will keep them in the house with a light for a few weeks. What should I look for if the broody hen will take them or not? We're going to block off the broody hen's favorite nest which is right next to the inside roosts so they can have the whole boxed in area which also has a light. So their feed & water can be up there. Should I have the hen's layer pellet food up there also along with the chick starter? I'll post pictures when I get them home.

Which reminds me, I once again forgot to get the greenhouse cover roll unwrapped and put on a piece of pipe for easy dispensing when I had two healthy and strong young people helping me yesterday, oh, well.

Again, teleportation would solve so many of our problems (including dog bombs, come to think of it).

My favorite use of teleportation was on a Star Trek: Voyager. They used it to deliver a baby. I could so get behind that.

Got to love that! Although after the first C-section, the other was a walk in the park - one bonus of remaining numb after surgery.

Couldn't the nice worker come out and put it together for you on his day off? I agree, false advertisement. Contact corporate, they may pay for (via refund) someone to actually put it together given their incorrect information on the site.

I'm waiting to hear back from them. In the mean time, I'd better get some plastic over the cardboard box before it starts to rain. The box falling apart because it's wet would make returning it even harder.

I'd be

That is false advertising and either they need to send someone over to make it right or come pick it up and give you a full refund! If they advertised that it was pre-assembled, then that is what it should be!

When I tried to introduce both my broodies to new chicks, neither would take them, and I tried with 2 batches of chicks! (Yes, I really am overrun). I pulled the eggs out from under the hens and replaced them with the chicks. The hens got up and started pecking the chicks and seemed quite agitated. One went on to hatch 4 BCM from cowgirlgrace. They hatched Sunday and the hen is very gentle with them, clucks to them and gently nudges them back to her when they wander too far.

Give them all whatever you feed the chicks. The hen does not need layer food as she is not laying eggs.
