I've also settled on my breeding project. I want to fool around and create a super alien chicken. But I'll settle with a bird that looks a bit like a laced wyandotte that has a beard and lays blue/green eggs.

How about a bird with spangles, beard, and crest? I will have some spitz and brabanter cockerels as soon as I figure out who is who.

Do you have pictures of what they'd look like as adults?

besides that if you have a jack, they should be great little rat catchers, givesem practice!!!

My Jack is 11yrs young. He can't seem to be able to catch them. He loves looking / hunting though. He can squeeze under the porch which is where they hide once scared off the bird feeder, still can't seem to find them. I'm sure they are getting into the chicken coop too as the wood pile is next to it & the pile is just high enough they can jump to the big square wire. That section doesn't have hotwire & i've seen droppings. They come out in the dusk/dark & that is when we tend to be heading to bed. We don't leave our dogs out.

get a cat!! I've got some of the best gopher huntin mouse eatin cats in the country!!! I have an orange male that rocks!!! He's young cat and he just sits and waits for the gophers at their hole!! I know with a JR they like to chase things so it probably isn't feasible there but, I'm telling ya a good cat or cats, (i've got 4) will whittle the population down for sure!!!

Although I would like to have a outdoor cat around, my father in law is very allergic to cats but not dogs. My brother in law is also allergic to cats & dogs but married my dog show sister & he does love dogs so he has to take special meds to be in our house. They don't have carpet in their house so he can handle living with a dog. We have carpet so his allergies go nuts here.

The other problem is my dogs don't really like cats. My Jack grew up with me bringing him to work where they had a shop cat, he would actually play with the cat. So he probably could be taught to get use to having a cat around. Not sure about the almost 9yr sheltie though or the 3yr cocker. The cocker isn't much of a big deal as she's not a big animal chaser but the sheltie is. A few yrs ago before the cocker, we had a stray cat coming in our yard so we'd open the door & the dogs would chase it out. Well one time the Jack caught the cat, boy did the Jack & I learn our lesson. Don't let them chase the cats anymore. Several scratches on the face & one very close to his eye, luckily i'm a groomer & was able to clip & clean up his scratches. That tom cat learned to stay clear of the backyard after that one lol. Of coarse now it'd be nice to have them back

Funny dog/chicken story.

We bought 2 rat zappers after having read some rave reviews. They arrived yesterday, so I told Alex to put them in the runs last night. I was looking forwards to my first fried rat, but found nothing in the traps. Then I noticed they were not baited nor turned on. Alex did exactly as he was told, he put them in the runs!

I'll look up rat zappers. Thanks. Can these be used outdoors (like rained on) or do they need to be under cover? I just found on Amazon the electronic rat zappers that run off batteries.

That is funny how they listen to just what you say & not what you mean lol.

They need to be under cover, but you can put it under a tipped up big rubbermaid container to protect it.
