Not only does it increase / cause fruit to happen. Two years of no pollination and mankind is done. It's that simple and that is more reason we should take care of the bees.

Nope they imprint land marks and return to them. If a hive is moved during the day you will see all of the foragers who were out returning to the last location and they won'e be very happy.

Yes anything he has would be a good score. I am using some stuff I got from a family friend and he was using it when I was pre teen. Of course that was only a few dayz ago.

Speaking of bees and pollination. We have two Italian Prune trees (one is only about 7-8 years old the other is probably 25 years old). The older one has maybe six prunes on it each year and the newer one hasn't had one yet. When I was a kid, the prune trees in our neighborhood were prolific. You couldn't give enough of them away and mostly they got used for throwing at each other. The first couple of years we lived on this property I thought it was because of really bad windy, rainy weather. But this year (in spite of all the rain we've had) we actually had fairly nice days while the trees were in bloom. But we had almost zero insect action during that time (no bees - no nothing). Can they bloom too early in the season for the pollinators to be active? I've been thinking about getting bees (I've always like honey bees), but was thinking it might not do the prune trees any good anyway.

We don't use any pesticides here and our neighbors don't seem like the type that would use them either, so they shouldn't be affected 'locally' by bad chemicals. And, a few weeks later into the Spring, there is a healthy amount of 'buzzing' going on in the yard. Just curious if you had any ideas re: this problem.

Thanks but my coops aren't all that great you need to look at what some of the others on here are doing.
BTW there is nothing wrong with that tractor. If you want it to look better just add a coat (or 2) of paint and trim and a few goodies. And pressure wash and cedar stain the roof.

I always forget about the magic of paint until, at the end of each summer, my husband gets on my case to splash the leftover house paint on all my 'sad' looking coops and enclosures. It really can help.

Yes Honey bees normally don't fly below 50* however there are some bees that never read any of the bee books. Also I would encourage helping the mason bees. They take very little work or space. With masons you get no honey but they do more pollination than honey bees. Also has the tree been pruned. If it is way overgrown it will not produce. It could also be that the bees that had been there in the past have died off. Honey bee's will travel about a 2 mile radious for feed .

All of mine that I have posted pics of are painted with free paint. The neighbor and I painted and trimmed 4 houses with free paint. Plus that is what I use on my coops and hives.

Dang, I thought I had read a post where you both got plain Wheatons and no blues so thought yours may have suprized you. I'll ask Cheryl just in case but if you change your mind let me know. He is from Pips and Peeps line. Been trying to win some Peachick eggs in the auction but they are way too expensive. Awesome color though.

Aren't her eggs incredible!!! In color and price!

The eggs are really BIG!!!
And the color is a deep blue/bluish green..almost a turquisy color.
My Blue Ams lay a nice blue egg, but the wheatens & blue wheatens from cpartist (Luanne) are much more deep blue/bluegreen.

I have a 'pen' that you 'dot' on insect bites, called itch stop I think...anyway, it is like a fat felt pen, and it contains 100% ammonia, and it works, just a dot.

Did you see My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Her father put Windex on everything. That's essentially ammonia.
