If you get it to work, let me know how. I've been pushing DH to do this as well! And we are on 2.3 acres out in the country, but on a foo foo street with too big of a house. I wanna downsize the house, and upsize the land. And a big barn is a MUST!

Tamara, I love the size of your house!! I could do without the big hill to drive up to get to it....kinda scares me!!!

Yes, it works great with the kids still home. But once they are out, or even just the older one, I'll really be tempted and I think DH could be persuaded then. But thanks for the complement! And yes, the hill SUCKS!

With the traffic lights out, it could take him a long time to get home.

He just walked in. He's at Redmond Town Center. Said the lights were all working on the east end of town.

That's good. Now, put him to work.

Good luck with your festivities this weekend! It's always a MAJOR stress for me to entertain too. Nothing is ever as nice as I'd like it to be and at a certain point I have to just say "it is what it is" and hope my guests are happy, relaxed and well fed.
I'll bet you make really good potato salad. I don't think many younger folks know how to make real potato salad anymore.

Yep! He's already washed the bathroom and swept the deck.

It's acutally tonight. We are hosting our neighborhood meeting. I'm hoping the sun comes out and sticks around!

I do have to say, I am well known for my potato salad. If we get a summer gathering put together at CL's or anywhere else, I'll bring some!

Thanks for the well wishes on tonight though. I'm sure it will go fine. Checking things off the list!

"Well I can get eggs at Walmart for $1.96"

You can also get a lot of other junk there too. We buy eggs that are right at 3 dollars a dozen and I would say that it is not as good as the local small 'farms' that you guys operate. They still feed their birds with junk feed and are crammed in there.

That looks like the one the cat caught!

Not sure what we had in the zapper. It was darker, though the face looked the same ... kind of cute with big round ears and a short nose. I mad at my dog - she just chewed apart the $54 rat zapper, and yanked the spring from the battery comparment. I'll try and fix it.

Townsend's Vole is as long as my fist, about half the size of a Norway Rat and 2/3 the size of a Rattus rattus. Their tails are about half as long as a rat's. There's... I think six? species of voles in Western Washington, of which Townsend's is the largest. I did a big old obsessive study of rodents the first time I saw a black rat on my bird-feeder: it was a rat, all right, but I was hoping it would be anything else at all. I hate rats, and we didn't actually have a problem with them until the apartments went in across the road and contracted for one-day-a-week trash (dumpster) disposal: the snow storm of December 2006 coincided with Tacoma Rail dead-heading some "empty" grain cars on the siding near here and two missed trash pic-ups between Christmas Eve and January 2, and we were off to the races, rat wise.

I also have the infamous Mazama Pocket Gopher, but besides being uglier than sin and eating the occassional rose root system, they're much less annoying and destructive than the voles: Zathras finds the voles supremely tastey, and hunts them when there are no gourmet baby bunnies.

We used to have a lot of voles, but my cat is exceptionally good at catching them. Now I hardly ever see them.
