So I have a question about quarantine.
How far does the new bird need to be from the existing flock and is there a standard duration?
The rooster I'm hoping to get is from a closed flock and they are not shown so I was wondering how long to keep him separated and if I could keep him in the converted dog house.

That's awesome CR! Maybe you have truly found your purpose in life! More power to ya cause they scare me! At least swarms of them do!

Very little reason to fear a swarm. Many work swarms with no suit at all. In fact I have but won't anymore. I know too many who have had bad stings in the face and some with new (deadly) allergies. Speaking of DW told me that if I turn allergic I have to promise to give up bees. I told her I just wont tell if I am allergic.

Nice job! What a score on all those kennels!

What I'm really jealous of, though, is that ground. Where is your swampland? Why is your ground not black and mucky with festering pools of rancid algae and a rainbow sheen from the billions of dead bacteria floating in the nasty puddles? I'm beginning to think you're not really in Chehails, but live somewhere on the dry side of the state!

Welcome!

Pretty soon he will be bringing you fliers from the feedstore hinting for more chickens! My DH was like that nd now he wants even more birds than me!

I would like to share a very special warning I got this PM. Make sure to take yer cell phone with ya when ya go in the coop. Otherwise when ya accidently lockyerself in ya could be there a while. I wonder if any body might fess up and give us any details to such an occurance ??? Anybody or shall I start drawing names. OK so I really won't let the culprit out of the coop but it would be fun to hear the rest of the story.

I have used two different coops to quarantine new birds - one is just 5 feet away (well, 17 feet at the time as I closed the door to divide the main run in two). The other one is about 30 feet away. I don't know what is proper, and none of my birds ever showed any illness, so I can't say if it worked.
