I hear what you are saying and a strong box would be important to me, since I'm very much a beginger. I'm not ready for a hive yet anyway. Need the equipment first. I will probably build the hive(s) just cuz I have the wood. I plan on making them all 6 5/8" (no 'deep' frames) How's that sound?

I have a cinderblock wall like that too, and I am planting it full of mint plants because I heard rats don't like mint.

Flys don't like mint either I have a pot at my front and back doors. It does help, but be carefull mint like to really grow like crazy and becomes a pest it self.

No Make 2 deeps for every hive. And then several honey supers for each hive. The bees need at least 2 deep boxes full of bees and stores to make it through winter.

So sorry to hear. I am not as smart about this as others (ok maybe not at all) but I would put em back in and keep watch. NOTHING VENTURED NOTHING GAINED!!
Also I saw somebody else on here that had some thing like this and ended with good results.

Are they large?? If so yes most likely they are bumble's. Bumble bees are also very good and while they do pollinate they aren't able to do as good due to thier size. And while they do produce honey it is a very small amount. A hive of bumble's will only be about 100 or so bees where honey's will be 40,000 - 60,000 or even more.

CR what are leafcutter bees? the farmers around here used to bring them in yearly in hives.

I am so plugged up & scratchy throat that I am taking the rainy day opertunity (?) to stay in bed (off & on) and drink OJ..tea with honey, and watch old movies...
My head feels heavy...and have sneezing fits that almost knock me out.
