Thanks! Like Alex's haircut? He did it himself because he got silly putty stuck in it.

I was just talking with a friend of mine who will be a grandma for the second time this week. I was thinking wow, her son had kids early, then she told me he is 30!!!! I remember going to a halloween party with co-workers at his moms house when he was 12 and his little brother (6) hid under the car because he was afraid of someone's cow costume. Now Alex is 12! It did not seem like that long ago; 5 years maybe.

They do grow fast that's for sure!!! Got pics of my 20 yr old son today, he is in Wyoming, he has changed so much over the last year! He's such a man!!! He just turned 20 on June 20th and it's just amazing, the change even from 18 to 20!!!! His face is clear and his eyes are bright and he wants to be an underwater welder!! He has a school picked out in Seattle. Be glad to have him home this winter. My daughter is coming back then too! Wyoming hasn't been good to them unfortunately!
and yea that's a great hair do!!

Some pics I just took of the strawberries.
Got them from WA4-HPoultryMom, when she thinned, and incidently, these have been plated in my compost in plastic window box planters to avoid chickens & slugs.
They have been in the compost now about 3 mo (?) and already have 2 & 3 foot long runners coming out all over.
This winter I am planting these all in their own raised bed, and they can grow crazy in there all they want !!

Glad you are enjoying the berries CL!! We have a 30 foot row out front in the fenced in garden, far away from any of our critters. I was able to slug bait around it and we have picked about a dozen or so this weekend. I should get out there later and there are probably more. I also have another 15' row in the back where the slugs to get them. Those go to the birds as treats. I think I ordered 30 of these 2 yrs ago, and they sent me over 50, and they are HUGE. The kids love them!!

I get scraps from the produce guy at our grocery every so often, and there is always a few strawberries in them, and my birds will not eat them.
They also refuse to eat carrot peelings, or carrots of anykind, like in leftover stew or soups I give them.
Weird, huh ?
Anyone's chickens eat any kind of carrots ?

We have 5 bantam cochins out and 10 more pipped! Active hatching going on here! If anyone wants bantam cochin day old chicks, let me know. They are supposed to be blue, black and lavender. The blue and black will be split for lavender. I will definently be getting rid of the blue. So far, all the hatched one's look blue, but it's hard to tell them apart from the lavender! Will really have to wait for them to fully fluff out to tell the difference!

Sat through the first Driver's Ed class with DD this morning. What fun!

Will have to get the permit tomorrow. Too busy today! Must run middle DD off to Dr's appt and then a pool party. Later!

I have read they don't eat raw root crops. I haven't had luck with carrot or potato peels, but if cooked, they will eat them.

Silly Putty has been banned from our house for all eternity!!!! I love/ HATE that stuff!!! It's cool to play with but always seems to end in frustration! Never had a kid with it in the hair though.

Speaking of hair...My DD with nice long hair decided to make a swing in a tree with a nylon rope and a chunk of 2x6. She found that if you twist the rope up and then climb on, you can go round and round for a long time. Sadly, her hair got twisted around the rope and she now has 2 bald spots. One the size of an electrical outlet and another the size of a 50 cent piece.
Scary part is, she said it didn't hurt that bad. Makes me wonder about her pain tolerance levels. She didn't even flinch or cry getting her ears pierced.
She only cried when she came in the house and saw the bald spots!

Oh how awful! Poor thing.

Alex also has a very high tolerance for pain. You should have seen his toe last year when he had an ingrown nail! He walked by me on Memorial Day evening - he was going to Science camp with his class the next morning. I took him to the ER had his toe drained of pus, cleaned up, the ingrown nail removed. The Dr. prescribed potenet pain pills and said Alex likely would not be able to got on any hikes. It never slowed him down, and he never took a single pain pill! We just coated it in Manuka honey wrapped it in bandages that he changed once per day with fresh honey. By the time he came home Friday, his toe looked normal aside from the cut nail and some peeling skin.

Too bad hair takes so long to grow back. I hope she finds some ways to style around those bald spots (or proudly displays them!).
