That is one beautiful coop!!!

Thanks!
Yeah ... It's going to be a few years before we can take a vacation that does not involve sleeping on friends couches, on the other hand, we were able to keep a very good friend employed for a few months when he lost his job (he also built a deck and a large dog run for us). He and his wife have done a lot of volunteer work with my son and a lot of other kids at the elementary school unicycle team, so helping them out is much more rewarding that a vacation, and now we have a high quality, beautiful coop and deck. There are more photos of it on my BYC page.

Wow, I went to your page. That is one awesome coop! Lucky chickens! Love all your wildlife photos. We used to have elk, but neighbor moved in with a black lab and we haven't seen them since. We do have lots of deer though and I am currently fighting with them over my garden! I put up netting over my raised beds, but now the slugs are eating my strawberries. Ach! Too many pests! Did you give up on your garden? It must be impossible to bear-proof it! I have a pumpkin/squash patch for my grandsons and I have been covering the tiny plants with milk jugs at night, but now they are too big. If they can just get a little bigger, the deer won't eat them once the leaves get kind of prickly. At least that is what happened the last two years. I tried an awful "garlic soup" last year to repel them, but with all our rain, it washes off and has to be reapplied frequently. May do that again though, until they get bigger.

Last year. the 3 year old grandson loved harvesting the pumpkins and zucchini. I got great photos to scrapbook. That is my other hobby. Photography and scrapbooking. I am dreaming of pages of chickens and grandsons! I loved your skater chicks photos!

Russ ya need to take a nice sunday drive down here !!!

I just might do that. My neighbor has not come after the butterfly bush. I think I'm digging it Monday. I've got lots of big pots to put it in. It's yours if you want it.

And maybe I'll do a reverse rustle. Hide a couple EE cockerals in your coops.

I am planning on taking some vacation later this summer. I'll let you know.

Russ

Gosh that is a good idea!!!!!!!!!

I never thought of that!!!

Good Morning all!
Hoping Pettec made it home OK, it is a long worrisome drive with the goaties, and then getting them settled.
And hopefully they nurse the Nany...but I bet Julie is one tired sailor!!!!!!!!!!
Best wishes your way!!

I have the #2 Icelandics zipping all over the place !
So cool how they are all different colors!!
They are very agressive zippers as well. some seem to be almost too hurried to get out, and may bleed alittle, so I gotta watch the belly buttons.
We get out sub floor lumber this morning so we will be building the 2 24" tall center support peirs today.
We also have to build a pump house (that will also hold 1 big water tank) so it will not freeze this winter.
This winter is starting to scare me, it might be really, really bad this year....

My DD has moved a few weeks ago to Eldon, IN a sub of Chicago, and they are getting hammered by the nasty storms now~~~bet she is flippin & knowing her, loving every minute of it.

hey CR: What are the chances of a swarm going in our new hive body?
Some honet bees were seen yesterday walking around on it?

Think they will go back & tell the colony ?

I ended up moving the garden much closer to the house. Because of the fence, the deer and elk don't bother it, the bear was the problem. Now the chickens are the problem. They dug everything up. I re-planted and put a temporary, floppy fence around it, but when we were taking the kids to camp on Saturday, the chickens got in and tore it all up again, so we startedfencing it off from the chickens with a permanent fence yesterday because I have a lot of starts in my greenhouse that I'd like to put out there. It may me that we get nothing but celery, chives, catnip and rosemary from our garden this year

We had the dog run built further back toward the orchard to try and deter the bears. I don't know if it is working as there is no fruit ripe yet. Elk in North Bend are not afraid of dogs, they sometimes kill them with a kick, but usually just ignore them They can't go over my fence as it is 6' plus a trellis above it anywhere the fence in not in thick forest. Before we put the trellis up, they would occasionally clear the fence!

Hey guys.. been out of the loop for far too long! We just got back from our dune trip to St Anthony Idaho. (CR-I have your sand!!) also, glad you ended up being able to sell some stuff at the Lavender Festival, I was following your posts on FB.

Trying to catch up. Hope all is well with everyone. The talk of coops is inspiring me. I have SIXTEEN DUCKS that I need to figure out how to house until fall so I can SELL THOSE BABIES! lol!

Am off to catch up in the garden and with watering and mowing and coops and laundry and....

Well, did anyone remember the chicken show last night?
I set the VCR to record it, and for some reason (((
somad.gif
))) the tape was rewound and had an Indy Car race on it instead..........
Seems someone set the VCR to record something else after I did.
Don't know how that happened since I had the TV cable box set on the channel I wanted with the chicken show...so I missed it!
Does not look like it is on again either, so I am going to search the Channel web site.

Finally count on this Icelandic hatch is 19 out of 20.
Fantastic hatch!
Would have been 20/20 as a few pipped yesterday, one failed to zip in the night & died...a little yellow one....
sad.png

But there is 19 more all out & wet.
Pics will be taken in the next few days.
After these dry out (tomorrow) will be vaccine day~~~
Along with 4 Cuckoo Marans and a bunch of Javas hatched a few days ago.

Ogress, we got a scrambled hard-to-understand cell phone call yesterday from DS, and sounds like he got the bike running.
Do not know details...
DH says "Now he just has to figure out how to make it STOP!"
lol.png

I am sure DS fixed the master cylinder as well, I hope

I will call him later today as he works nights.

Blondie, my Brabanter cockerel, is trying to crow. The little Spitz Cockerel, who is two or three weeks younger, has been trying for about a week. The Brabanter pullets make funny little honking noises rather than clucking.

Does ANYONE relatively close to me (funny there!) have any BIG long haired kittens ?
I am partial to Himalayens, had them for years & years.
great mousers, ratters in all weather.
If anyone has any, please let me know!
