I grew up in Granite Falls!!!Well sorta- I went to Jr. High and High School there. And the Ice Caves are above Granite Falls ...just follow the Mountian Loop Hiway and you'll see the signs for the caves. I forget how far it is from Granite but its a beautiful drive. And the hike to the caves is so nice.I miss going up there to all the hiking trails and camping sites.I just dont have the time anymore. We spent alot of summers up in those woods while I was growing up.
And can you believe Granite Falls has a McDonalds???? So Sad...Lots of things are different up there....I was kinda sad to see the old Tigers Den was gone...They had the best greasy fries!!!

You remember the Tiger's Den? Do you remember anyone with the last name of Hubbs?

Hubbs???No I can't recall but I have forgotten alot from back then....How about Bleakley for you? We lived on Getchell Hill rd. on the Hwy 92 side, by Junction Center and Horse Country.

Oh boy it gets hot there!!
I remember going camping in Yosemite one year, 110 degrees...and suddenly a bunch of T-heads came over & it hailed golf balls for 15 minutes...busted up our camp & tent.
We camped at Whiskeytown & it hailed there too, hotter than hell itself.
You had to be IN the water or else shrivel from the heat.
Hate heat.
I am so happy I live here!!!!!!!!!!

We had 100-110* a lot but it was dry heat. Not like those poor folks in the south who get that and the humidity!
I moved here when my mom died, I was 15. As kids we didn't seem to mind the heat as much.
Now, 80-85* and I'm good.
We had this AWESOME camping spot we used to go to all the time. Somewhere in the Sugar Pine area I think. It had a natural rock water slide area that dumped off into a large pool! As long as you didn't mind algae up your rear end, it was cool and refreshing! It was a clear water spring. So pretty!

There was a natural rock slide like that on the Stanislaus River...is that where you were?
I spent time there fishing.
Alot of time in the Valley at Knight's Lansing, upland game hunting at Gray Lodge.
Most of the summer it was Santa Cruz.........we lived in Los Gatos/Saratoga area.
The ranch was there on Quito Rd (before the Lawrence expressway) and that is where my horses were.
Rail road tracks went east to west, so we could ride forever.
Up to Lexington Reservoir, or through all the old growth apricot orchards, trees were so old they were 2 feet through the butt, all gone years ago....

...all lost to population growth.

Those orchards should have been protected, not bulldozed to build yet more houses of ticky tacky.
Who is going to feed all these breeding masses ?

We have the Icelandics for white eggs, and funny how each and every one of them is different.....
A fun flock to have is a mixed flock: One or two of all:
Cuckoo, blue copper, black copper marans, buff, white, partridge and barred Plymouth Rocks, a few polish, a few Ameraucanas, a few Spitz..and Icelandics.
A feast for the eyes and the egg basket.
I am sure you would have to have some BLRW and Lav W's in there as well>>>>what a yummy flock that would be....Oh, do not forget these gorgeous Buckeye, and Javas.

I was just 'talking' to a fellow Buckeye breeder, and told him the same thing as I will tell you:
Eight Buckeyes in a coop with fresh pasture grasses are eating 2-3 cups of feed a week, if that.
They are fantastic browsers!!

Wow! that's amazing!

my 3 buckeyes are fantastic if a bit of a pain.... they will sit on my feet while I try to walk cuz I "might" have food!
I can reach down and pet them anytime as well as pick them up. they are large and getting bigger every day. I've heard they are mousers as well but mine are still babies at 4 months but they do try to eat my toes if I'm in sandals.

Well, I am outta here, got coops to close & babies to feed~~~
Bye all!!!!!!!!!

Am tired, put up 2 more gallons of peas, (2 gallons a day for 2 weeks now) and 3 more quarts of strawberries.......beans are next.
Hung 50 garlic to dry.
have to pull & dry 80 onions tomorrow, and do Mareck's on the last 4 hatches of chicks so they can go out into the world........*sigh!*

And, pretty soon we will have to get the boat ready & go crabbing.....

Yes I am but of the 3 I know one is a cockerel 1 is a hen and the 3rd is a it atm.
Tho my friend jon said they all looked like hens as young chicks so possible I'm wrong on the cockerel. I'm basing it on the "saddle" feathers and since I've never had buckeyes before I could be misreading it.
