Ya ain't gonna offend me by putting a message to me in the same with cats UNLESS it has something to do with some idea of sending me cats. See I really don't like them and am also allergic to them which is just one more reason (IMO) not to like them.

awwwwww -- (catlover ...

several of them look a lot like my beloved Tippy, the first cat I was allowed to have (age 9)

one thought -- years later, my cat Chriseis -- 3/4 Siamese and blackglama mink color, deep brown in full sun
was routed up to my aunt's dairy farm since we were moving where he couldn't go

no, he wasn't neutered, and his progeny and descendants were SO coveted in that area, that my aunt actually made quite a bit of money, selling off these incredible mousing barn cats ... so if you introduce a few Siamese genes into the population, presto, no more rodents

Chris-cat actually took on a rat larger than he was, in our garage rafters in California .... hint, the rat did not win ...

My cat Moose, a feline version of a red-tail hawk in hunting style, was about 3/8 Siamese: his father was half and his mother a quarter. Moose's father was a big stray I called the Rabbit God (see Watership Down). He was weirdly marked, pale grey with dark grey shadowed map-spots and dark blue points, and had a kinked 3/4 tail and bright turquoise eyes. Moose was solid blue-grey. The ones at my sister's probably have some Siamese- there's usually one or two kittens with points in every litter, although not this year. This will probably be the last major kitten crop; I think all of the moms are supposed to get spayed, or all but one. They were supposed to be spayed last fall but the U joint fell out of the car that morning. The year before, they were going to go to the vet the afternoon of the day my sister got thrown into the air by a cow and came down with a ruptured hamstring.

The female that established this line was a tiny little thing who had no respect for rats or squirrels, and slaughtered them efficiently, but she moved out in a huff when my sister brought her dog home.

No, just that there are a bunch of propane tanks and I think two welding fuel tanks at the farm, which might be a matter of trade for a pig-shaped magazine rack. My BIL's a serious metal worker but mostly makes/repairs machine parts these days, and they have the usual old-farm accumulation of scrap metal (as well as some less usual items, like a brass propellar from an ocean-going ship which I can't figure out how his grandfather transported, let alone where he got it!).

We just might be able to work something out. I am also always looking for cool old stuff to make things out of. One of the ones I am really after right now are old dump rake tines. I also do removal of scrap metal.

My BIL's family loves their scrap metal, but the tanks are at my sister's house, and she doesn't.

I don't think we have any old rake tines; if we did I'd have pestered someone to bend them into long pot-hooks. Which reminds me, I bought a hanging basket of dwarf sweetpeas today and have to figure out how I'm going to hang it.

I have a weird relationship with scrap, myself: I find much of it gorgeous, especially the shattered pieces of parlor stove that I find from time to time, that was broken by a chimney fire. I have a pet road-grader blade, one of the old, old kind that was bolted to a wooden frame, and an eight foot tall piece of fluted cast-iron column from the old Union Mills Hotel that I need to stand upright and paint so it doesn't rust away to nothing.

Are you maybe thinking of a few days ago when somebody found 2 waterers and a feeder on CL I think they were $20 for all 3. Sorry I don't remember who else it was talking with.

yes that is the one I am talking about

I think that was chicks4gramma? I don't remember her screen name correctly, but she lives near me. Did you need to get in touch with her? only reason I remember (or think I remember is because those waterers where in Buckley....)

yes, and they were on Craigslist, so I am sure they are long gone by now

speaking of waterers and feeders, my friend at the local thrift shop, who has banties, told me to put together a 5-gallon (or 3-gallon) bucket and a deep frypan

I wound up going him one better, I found a larger-than-usual diameter tray normally used for holding stuffed (deviled) eggs

bolted a 3 gallon bucket above that, and cut slots in the sides of it, so that the feed spills into the indentations intended for the egg halves

bucket has a lid (which most of the commercial feeders don't) and a sturdy bail handle, since it originally contained dishwasher detergent, several years and several uses ago ...

chickens love it (it's 2 feet across so all seven can gather around without crowding) --- it's off the ground so they can't easily throw dirt into it (suspended by a couple of those rubber tie-down straps) -- and because of the way the bail handle sits, they can't easily perch on top and poo into it either
