And this is why I first became a SAHM- I had a job reading and marking English and history papers for the high school my sister went to which paid almost nothing, but netted more than I'd earn above daycare in any job that was open during that time (eldest was born in 1986).

When my kids where little I was a SAHM....but I still worked...I did medical transcription. I could never home school. I don't have the patience....by the end of the day one of us (me or the kids) would have been in the corner, in the fetal position, sucking my/their thumb, rocking back and forth.

That's just wrong. Do you work for a non-profit?

Nope, private medical practice. And... (get this)... the insurance I am offered is catastrophic.

You would think that in this field we would be better taken care of.

I have my insurance & DH has his. Baby is obviously going to go under DH's insurance. I'm just lucky that I'm in good health.

Did you actually work from home with the medical transcriptionist stuff?

Thanks! I feel like such a wuss....but to my credit...no one I know (out of the 5 ladies I work with who have had children in the last 18 months) made it to (almost) 37 weeks and still were at work!

That said...I have to work 10 hours tomorrow.

And I'm going into work for a 1/2 on Monday (normally my day off) so I can work a 1/2 day on Friday (the 5th) and have the rest of the day to get ready for my SIL's wedding on Saturday!

Take it easy - my last appointment with my frist, my blood pressure was starting to go up, and I felt like you describe. Doc told me to stop working, said I should habe stopped 2 weeks earlier. I happened to have a friend with me who was one of the managers where I worked, so she would not let me ignore the Dr. Orders, but I did have to train my replacement (who we hired a week earlier), so I worked until after 10pm that night. The next day I was home bored out of my mind. I figured no one in my family ever went into labor early, so I decided to take a walk, alone, along the Tolt Pipeline trail. I walked there from my house, stopped at Bear Creek to see the salmon and then continued on up the steep hill to Lake of the Woods. While walking up the hill, I went into labor! At first it was mild, and I thought it was hiccups, but it was very regular. I did manage to walk back home very slowly with lots of stops during the contractions. At home I rested on the couch, still thinking it was a major bout of hiccups with regular timing, but then it got stronger and my water broke. Alex was not born for another 38 hours by emergency C-section because we were both going into distress. I sure wish I had taken some time to relax and unwind before the baby came! Going from career gal to new mom in less than 72 hours was a bit of a shocker.

Wow! LOL Yeah...today was the first time I really felt out of it...very hot & dizzy...sick to my stomach. I did go into the clinic (no progress) and my blood pressure was 120/68. The nurse told me to drink more water & stay inside (it was close to 90 today). I'll be working 6am to 5pm tomorrow and next week I am going to talk to my boss about doing 1/2 days for the next few weeks...

Well, the Blue Roo has gone home with Mikey; I wonder if he'd going to try to keep it in his bedroom tonight (his wife probably says no). When he was a kid, he kept a wing-shot Green Winged Teal in a box in his bedroom closet and had a pet crow for years.

He's stoked about how beautiful and tame his new baby is.
