Do you mean larger rocks or really small, like gravel?

I get larger rocks or marbles so they can still drink around them but if they fall alseep and drop they wont be head first in it.

you did it, midwife Dana !!!

(do you know which of my pullets is mama ?? )

It is one of the blue/green eggs, but it's turned right now so I can't see the writing on it. I have to leave the lid on the incubator, but when I get a chance I'll check it.
I'm trying to load a pic that I took with my phone but uploads isn't working for me at the moment. I'll try and post it later!

then it's probably Phoebe's or Christina's ... or maybe Deirdre's or Anitra's ... if it's a fairly dark chipmunky one I'd bet on Phoebe or Deirdre ... if so probably will grow with a darker head and no muffs or beards ... the lighter color stripey chicks with pronounced eye stripes (of mine) were the fluffies

we'll just have to wait and see if any of the chicks show up as yellow ... which would mean that Roopert has some Dominant White genes

if the chicks are all chipmunk striped, that might indicate his coloration is courtesy of Columbian genes ... which is why Illia suggested we hatch a few eggs, to differentiate one genetic background from another

any that come out quite dark without stripes, are probably little roos, since that's what Roopert was, as a chick; kind of a dark mink-brown color ...

then he grew some white feathers, which was why I called him Moonlight for awhile (still thinking he was a pullet) --- he still has that black and white splotched plumage on his breast and underside, with some silver feathering also under his tail

Well folks its been awhile, but it looks like were finally back online, for those who have no clue who we are anymore, we should make it to the fall show with some of our dark brahma bantams, we have some eggs in the bator but due to a power outage accident we may have to start over, in better news one of those hens has since become broody. Either way we win! Have fun those of you who are at the fair, either the esf or puyllaup.

Well, Elvis and I had some excitement this afternoon. I was sitting here dreading the idea of cooking dinner when he started to make a truly imposing racket- alarm calls fit for a grizzly bear or pterodactyl.

Not quite: a female Cooper's Hawk, pretty much exactly his size, was perched on top of the double-bench trellis, maybe eight feet from his Tower of Solitude and on a level with his top perch (which he was not on- he was on the ground under the other perch and his hanging feeder). She flew off when I yelled at her.

I'd be scared too.
