So...I was doing chicken chores this morning - cleaning the waterers after just having let everyone out when I hear CROWING from the backyard!!! Thinking I must have somehow mis-identified one of our four month old pullets or something I ran outside to see who is doing all the crowing.

It was Henrietta!!! The one I know for sure is a girl, as she is our only layer right now! And then when I wasn't sure if it was really her, she did it again!

This is not from this morning - but a cute pic of her

She really is a girl - I have eggs to prove it.

I think that she was calling for Panda - as Panda, Henrietta, and Juno grew up together...and Juno is distracted with chicks so Henrietta was not sure what to do. I gave her scratch and she was quickly distracted...but will be checking in with DH later to see if she's still doing it!

If it's not one thing - it's another! How am I going to explain to the neighbors that a hen was crowing?

I'm sure I could find room for Henrietta along side Panda

Anyone on the west side of the Cascades get frost yet? It was pretty nippy out last night/this morning. . . Curious who'll get frost first.
