I was only there for about 2 hours, until my kids were about to kill each other, and my son stuffed himself so full at the pot-luck that he decorated his room! On our way down there I made both kids repeat what they were allowed to eat - a sandwich (we picked up bread and deli meat), veggies and TWO snacks! When I caught DD with 4 pieces of fudge on her plate she tried to say she was bringing them to me! I don't know how many she ate earlier, but she preferred the chocolate to the Peanut Butter which is unusual for her, and DS liked the peanut butter better, and he usualy does not like PB! He said his favorite food there was the ginger cookies. I think when I told him 2 snacks, he decided it meant 2 of each snack, and if he did not like one, he could substitute the second for one he liked better. He is good at reasoning like that since I did not clarify that it was a TOTAL of 2 snacks.

Man, that's kids for ya!! Tryin the ole snack sneak trick!! lol Yep I'll catch up with you in Monroe for sure! I won't be as distracted (ADD)!! lol

Oh I want to also thank Totalcolour (sp) and her DH for the wonderful information they gave me on the Muscovy's . I really wanted to show them to you but, again, distraction comes easy to me and the next thing I knew you were gone!! LOL It's interesting, I went out and fed my flock this morning and I'm already looking at who else isn't fitting the program and may have to go bye bye!!!

That looks really neat. I need a greenhouse but it would take me several decades to get that many bottles. I am concidering roofing a coop with the tea cans my DH drinks.

Go to any Pet Store (Petco, PetSmart, etc) and go to the caged bird dept.
There look for MITE spray.
Then go home, have help if you are scared, and first thing in the morning while the birds are cooped (not loose) go into the coop, grab each one, flip them upside down, like a baby & have a helper spray their nether regions, while you flip their butt fuzz to & fro........
The spray is permethrin, and will kill the mites FAST!
P.S. These crawlies cannot live on humans, so do not stress about that.
This works really well...especially if you only have a few birds.
I use Eprinex, drops on the back of the neck 2X a year..kills all external & internal parasites.
But Eprinex is spendy, and will expire if not used up.
So not for someone with just a few birds.

Permethrin has no egg withdrawal, but does not kill internal parasites, just the crawlies on the outside...so it is a start, and inexpensive!
You can buy 2 bottles & spray the roosts & nest boxes as well.
repeat in a week.
Mite eggs can hatch out again in 1 week or so~~

Permethrin can be had for greater quantities for a much lower price at any feed store. Either buy the concentrate (which they often use on cattle) or buy horse fly spray. Look at the active ingredient to see if it is permethrin. I like to use permethrin/pyerethrin combo when I use that.

There's also a Permethrin spray for use on outdoor clothing and tents available at REI. And Amazon has a listing for concentrate for under $30.

I tend to avoid Sevin and Carbaryl because they persist in the food chain and are bad for bees and hornets.

Look,.. there was only one person that I know of that had hard feelings,.... and I am going to do two things #1) explain why and #2) tell you that before the end of day one of the show the person who was upset was over it and talking to him,..
So, the fellow who was upset has been a vendor at this show for years, and, a member of the club/ participant for as long as the show has been going. So, when a new vendor comes in and, die to communication errors, didn't have a pre-assigned vendor space and gets a spot right by the door while the long-time vendor is on the back wall between the restrooms... well, that's why there were some questions asked. There were no curse words, no yelling. Really. I don't understand why this stuff ends up on here?

If that's the long-time vendor I'm thinking of...is he going to be at Monroe, do you think? I need to save my dimes (the quarters are spoken for) to be able to buy several items in his stock. I'll probably have to sell off a few of my books (I've got a bunch of mediaeval history ones I'm very over) to make room, too.

It's possible I need to get independantly wealthy between now and then.

For those who were not there Sunday pm. Rumor has it that there may have been some BYCer's and exhibitors who broke into a spontaneous group hug dance kind of thing right in the middle of the show floor.

Good thing all the cameras were already packed away. Keep in mind this is only rumor.

I wasn't able to see any of it from where I was.

Possibally in the midst of it all ! ! !

Well I just got the chance to say hello to you before you were whisked away and then I never got to catch up with you again. So "hello!" I know I missed a few folks I wanted to meet and didn't get to spend enough time with a few others. Guess I just get to try again in the spring! I really did have a good time - glad DH went with me even though it appeared to most that I was alone because he couldn't stand next to me for more than 30 seconds at a time.

Sorry about your DS Ogress! Hope my PB fudge wasnt the culprit responsible - it was pretty rich.
