Last time I reviewd that issue, it was not actually nematods which live in soil ...but Hookworms.
The immunal system lies in the gut, and Hookworms in the gut have developed emitting chemicals that calm the immunal system, there by there is no reaction from the immunal system to the worms.
hookworms are not something I care to have in my body despite the amount of weight I have to loose.
But some folks are actually selling hookworm larvae or ova to others who have chronic allergic reactions.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwww

yes one of the theories is that we have eliminated all of the natural parasites from out bodies, they have done clinical trials with the worm thing, it looks promising but not enough people gain remission if you ask me. there is no cure, it will always be there. I considered it, but nope, not swallowing any worms that I am aware of. Ginger has also shown in trials to reduce and block inflammation but again, does not gain remission or cure. cedars sinai has done some complete bone marrow transplants for those with big bucks, essentially replacing the immune system and so far no recurrence on the successful transplant. it takes months and millions to accomplish that one.

Hook worms in people are not that common, but does happen in parts of the south were tons of people go barefoot, and hookworms are prevalent. Not so much in the northern states, we actually studied this in vet tech school

DH reply was "let's hear it for the "muffin monster". He has come home telling me many stories of what he has found in the "muffin moster".....Ick.

I can totally relate. I spent 13 years maintaining Water, Waste Water and traffic light systems for Chehalis. Pretty amazing the things that get flushed.

The DH says:

Gosh....I just can't say any more.

No. what these worms (Hook Worms) do is manufacture a drug which hypnotises the immunal system into calming down & not reacting to their presence, there by, an allergy or immunal disease sufferer suddenly has no allergic reactions.

You are mistaking hookworms (Necator americanus) for shistosome flat worms (Schistosoma mansoni) which are trematodes rather than nemotodes. Shistosomes live in the blood vessels around the intestines rather than in the intestines like hookworms. Shistosomes are famous for their ability to trick the human immune system. What they actually do is shed their skin and replace it with one underneath that has different proteins in it so by the time the immune system can react to it, there is nothing for the immune system to bind to.

The chemicals the worms make calms the immunal factory (T cells) and they calm, and allow whatever to go on without the attack...

No. The body has T-Helper cells. There are two kinds Th1 and Th2 cells. When you have an infection, the Th cells deliver to the B cells, etc. what the invader looks like, protein wise, to go attack it. Th1 cells do that for viruses, things in cells, and random proteins and Th2 cells do that for larger things like bacteria and parasites. When one type of Th cell is made, it inhibits the growth of the other. When you have a parasite, the Th2 cells inhibit the growth of Th1 cells *so they don't get bored have the immune system attack other things like beta cells your pancreas because it is producing a weird (according to it ^) protein like insulin.

Viruses are a whole different movie.
The immunal system can in most cases find & kill viruses in your body.

Ummm. . . If it could do that, we would only very rarely ever need vaccines.

Such is as vaccines, take the merk's vaccine for example::
It is a live albeit iradiated & weak live virus. It can only barely live for 1 hour.
So we give the shot to the chicken, and during 14 days time, the chicken's immunal system "blueprints" the virus...so the immunal system "knows" this is a virus...and has time to prepare for it...and waites for it....
And if Marek's virus come along, the chicken's immunal system wipes it out instantly.
This is how all vaccines work.
And we now know that IF the virus does not ever come, after years, the immunal system "forgets" this virus.
That is why the authorities are recommending so many of us vaccinated boomers to be revaccinated...cuz polio & the rest of the viruses we got as kids never came around & our immunal system "forgot them.
The immunal system has to get "exercised" or it "forgets"

That is better than I could explain it.

The reason that food allergys are so bad is that if you get a splinter, your immune system reacts to that spot on your hand and loosens up your blood vessels so it swells with blood and lots of white cells, etc. go there. When you have something running around in the blood stream (systemic) that the immune system is reacting to, it opens up all your blood vessels (or at least all the ones where that protein is

) which leads to a huge drop in blood pressure and no blood getting to the lungs/heart and brain. Epinepherine is a vasoconstrictor and tightens up all your blood vessels, which saves your life.

* There is the theory that the immune system developed to fight off things and when there is nothing to fight off, it finds something to fight and that is why there are so many autoimmune diseases in the developed world.

^ If you want a more detailed explanation of how that all works, I would be happy to explain, but that would take up too much space here.

You two will have to get together and you can share GROSS stories.
LMAO.

Well, I see everyone survived without me today!!

Some interesting parasite discussions, sorry I didn't research everything that you guys put out, but the poo discussions.....

LOL! So, I finally took all my scrub chickens to Toppenish this morning, and sold them all in about an hour and ahalf. They went from 7 dollars to 3. But, I didn't have to bring them home and feed them. I took four of my young muscovy hens to a gal in La Grande OR, she actually met us in Stanfield, so that was fun, Terry and I had a nice drive and with the money from all proceeds was able to pick up more feed no sales tax!!, That's always a good thing!!
thumbsup.gif
So, I am down to a very small number of ducks and chickens again!! A more manageable amount for sure!! And there is a lady coming from Goldendale to look at the rest of them!! So, I am only keeping my new drake and new hen from Chehalis, and one silver and one black hen from my last years hatches. I am doing an experiment. The two from last years hatch do not have very much caruncle, or red bumpy skin as seen on Muscovy's. My new black drake already had a lot, for being a spring hatch. So, I kept these two girls to see if he throws more, or if they take after their moms?? The sun was out and it was a balmy 50 degrees or so, great day to meet people and talk ducks and chickens!!

I just read this and am so sorry - this is a nightmare to read and has to be so upsetting. I'm stunned the clamps weren't seen in the MRIs - they're metal, right? So in theory not only should they have shown up, I believe they could have been pulled out by the magnetic force of the MRI. I hate to say this, but I think you may need to find a good attorney...

x2!!

The worst parasitic thing I have had was "cutaneous larvae migrans." Did y'all study that in school? Basically, it means that I grew up in the south and walked around barefoot in an area that a dog had defecated in. When the slide of that came up in my Parasitology class, by first reaction was, "OMG! Those things itch like crazy!"

Anyway, they have shown that it takes less than 50 hookworms to have the anti-autoimmune effect and the anemia, etc. that is detrimental to human health is at about 12-15,000 worms.

What they did to the mice was they put shistosome eggs in the IP cavity. Shistosomes cannot infect mammals unless they swim around in water, live in a freshwater snail, swim around in water again, and then they can infect a mammal. There was no way that the mice could have gotten Shistosomiases.

Any ideas on why I have that picture up for my profile pic?
