such a shame about those boys - so very nice looking. So far I've been lucky. The only naught boy I had was a banty who took exception to my jeans or shoes, not sure which. We finally got rid of him because a hawk got his mate and there was no point in keeping him.

The rest are fabulous to ME! However, we do have one that is giving another roo grief. Won't let him near food or into the coop. So, I'm trying to figure out what to do. He's a recall nice roo, but he's so aggressive to the other one, who is also gorgeous.

Maybe just go grab the one being bullied, and put him in solitary until I can build a pen for him and a couple of ladies. He really should be breeding, he's so gorgeous. (he's my Avatar, a really pretty Icelandic)

OK, not sure what's going on with my reply postings.  Also, the site's running very slowly and at one point I had to reboot because BYC froze.
On another note, my big cuckoo marans cockerel attacked me 4 times today, first from behind, then three times facing me, aggressively, and ripped my leg.  He finally stopped and I got him to back up, but he was still confrontational.  Couldn’t do much more than that because my leg was bleeding through my sweats and I didn’t want to start a riot.
I have 10 pullets and 3 cockerels, all about 5 months old.  I’d already decided to re-home the 2 silkie boys based on the boy:girl ratio (silkies were supposed to be girls) but had intended on keeping Rocky (‘the wonder rooster’ – not so much right now).   They’re all in the coop, which is 8’X10’X5.5’ tall with lots of roosts (their run is still not secure).  Rocky attacked me the first time a few days ago, but after he came at me twice I got him to stop and backed him up around the coop.  I thought he attacked because I was wearing red - now, not so sure.  He’s also gotten much more aggressive towards the girls, trying very hard to mount and is yanking on their combs, and yesterday I found a pullet with her comb partially ripped.  The girls are pinking up but aren’t laying and aren’t ready for mounting. 
Hormones, being cooped up, pecking order – could be contributing factors, but he just seemed really angry.  He used to be calm and stay out of my way, but his whole demeanor changed from one week to the next.  Is this aggression or just a hormonal cockerel?  After I put him in his place the first time, I wouldn’t have expected him to be more aggressive, and given he’s only 5 months old the aggression seems excessive.  I've read about what to do with an aggressive cockerel / rooster but have never had to do it.   Would love to get your thoughts / suggestions / advice –

Someone may have already answered this but heres my 2 cents worth...

1) catch him and hold him while you care for the girls... even if its by the feet upside down.. He is challenging you for top rooster position.
2) chase him away from the girls when he tries to mount when your around.
3) make sure to feed the girls first even if it means a stick to keep him away
4) when he attacks... attack back. don't hurt him but wack him with a stick or a boot when he comes at you. My mom carries a bamboo cane just for this reason

you can also do what I do if you can... I dog crate the rooster every night at bed time.... then I put him with the girls after they have started eatting. each night the rooster gets handled and poked and petted and etc etc.... if he freaks or gets ornery I turn him upside down and hold him by the feet until he settles... then he goes upright... repeat at each freak out.

Now all 3 of my roosters will sit on my arm, in my hand, on my shoulder without fussing. and none have ever attacked me.... they do attack my mom at times but if they do we lock them up a lot more in the crate and the crate is on the back porch so he can see everything while mom takes care of the flock. This helps enforce that she is head rooster not him. and I'm the mean old monster of the night!

loved Popeye, he kept all the others in line, period.
Some cock birds do that...they are like our men, in that they run to disrupt fights, discourage arguements amonst the flocks...and so on.My Cuc
koo Marans boys are like that, I love them dearly!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it really was too bad...the splash boy was nice, as long as he wasn't with any ladies...but what good is a rooster if you can't put him with ladies??!? The Chantecler was just MEAN...there was a moment of pause right before the ax fell, but it just wasn't worth it...

When my girls were little, they would fight in the backseat of the car. So one day, I pulled over and told them that it was distracting me and that it could cause and accident. Therefore, if they were going to continue fighting, I would have to put them in the trunk. I told them the choice was theirs - fight and go in the trunk, or behave and stay in the car (fight when we got home in their bedrooms). They knew I meant it because I'd done it with the dog, to teach him not to run out on the highway (it worked too).
