Chickie, I feel the same way. Posted this REALLY funny video and no on commented on it. I thought it was hilarious but I guess I must go to the beat of a different drummer.

So for the last several days we have been hearing these odd whining noises...DH comes in the house and says he has heard it again.
I go outside & listen...everyday for about 4 days now.
I figure he is talking about some sort of bird, a sharp high pitched whine noise.
Finally I hear it today.........mean while Jack is going ballistic.
See, we are completely surrounded by thick woods.
Past the chicken pens is woods so thicj you can barely walk through.
Guess what the sharp chirpy noises are ???
Give ya a clue : There was an awful lot of brush crackling every so often but not every time.

He was thinking weasels ?
Not a racoon, DH has raised pet raccons and that is not their noise........
ha ha ha.

Robin, what brand or make is your sewing machine?

should it happen to be a Singer, there are several groups on the internet, dedicated to vintage Singer sewing machines (or other makes), and many of them feature people who have taken classes in "how to fix them" -- I know there are several of them in Olympia but seems to me there was one in Hoquiam ...

you might get better advice from a hobbyist, rather than a professional shop ...

also there are often postings on "how to fix" various common problems

I wish we were closer, I have several machines surplus to my needs (mostly straight-stitch machines, though I might have a zigzagger or two)

I have only one Purina bag; my usual game-bird feed comes in paper bags rather than plastic .... if I'm not here for the next meet up, I will pass it along to someone who IS going, to relay to you

My machine is a Singer, a new one.I wore o
ut my old one, seriously wore it out.It w
as ALL metal so I went & bought a new one..PLASTIC gears, top load bobbin that is impossible to clean.......NOT user friendly!I have to
take a screw driver to it for 15 minutes just to change a light bulb !!  

I am missing my old one, front load bobbin...easy to get to & never collected dust...flip the top & there is the light bulb...easy to adjust bobbin & top thread tension.....this post{puter} cannot keep up with my typing.
I have to stop & waite to see what I typed.
I think I am going to abscond my Mother's Husqvarna, but she'd freak if she knew I was sewing feed bags with it.
I thought about cutting the bags open & making a Teepee...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
DH said it would be way too noisey in the wind!!

if you can find one, get a Singer 15-91 --- older all black straight stitch ; it takes the same round bobbin as most of the Singers, but a slightly different housing for the bobbin, not quite the easy drop in the top kind

but it is incredibly DURABLE -- and they show up fairly often second hand, I got mine at the Salvation Army for $25 I think, including the cabinet and chair with storage under the seat

I can't remember right off hand what I thought of as "surplus" but could be a JCPenney Japanese Singer-clone, also one branded for Montgomery Wards

if anyone is going out your way, a relay is possible (I was going to set them up to do a lot of quilting, but ran out of enthusiasm)

yeah I have a couple also, family machines, with the older style dumb-bell bobbin -- those work well ONLY if use either silk thread or pre-1960 mercerized cotton ... will jam and tangle if you try to use poly, polyblend, or newer cotton thread ... luckily I also inherited my mother's collection of thread; she bought out the stock of a store going out of business ...

much better to make teepee out of canvas ... you need a bit more air circulation in one, than feed bags would give you, plus I am not sure whether they might outgass ... so many of the synthetics and plastics do ... for rendezvous we had a pyramid tent of UV-stabilized cotton duck, and it was just wonderful

occasional crackles in brush, with Jack going crazy, suggests to me either coyote or young bear ... bobcats and cougars are generally silent in the woods; possums and coons generally small enough not to make much underbrush noise

I think this time of year, Momma is kicking the calves outta the nest........and they are whinning about it.
The other noises are evn more higher pitched & more "urgent" which sounds exactly like cow in estrus............which backs up the late season.....which is why fawns are being born so late, lately.
We saw 1 doe with 2 twin fawns in eraly mod season (Nov) and these fawns were the size of small dogs, like 15 pounds each?
The warm weird weather IS effecting the wildlife.
So we have both mewling calves freshly kicked out of the nest AND cows in estrus NOW, which should have happened in November.

Then DH is out "Commandoing" with his spyglass & night vision that Santa Claus got him.......and comes in & says he saw 5 sets of eyeballs on the hill......HAHA I told him to quit messing with THOSE eyeballs or they would take his fanny OUT !!!
Just cuz it is a little kitty cat mewling noise does not mean it isn't a BIG HERD OF ELK !!!!

ha ha it is no predator...the mewling sounds are cows in estrus & freshly kicked out of the nest calves..

NOW...in January !!!!!!

I got the paid version on my lap top and it does make a difference.

That being said the free version is quite good if one has priorities finance wise else ware.
