Okay, there was a photo with an incubator (I think Igress') .... in the middle was an "instrument"...I think I saw something similar at the feed store... is this a hydrometer/thermometer?  The one I saw was around $50...I would like to have it but tight on cash right this minute. Wondering if it was the same thing, how do you like it, does it work well?

I use the cheap $9.99 one that looks just like the one in the hatching try... ebay, walmart, etc
just make sure to use a new battery or recharged battery each hatch....
also test against a tried and true thermometer for any variation and test the humidity before using so you can 'adjust' for what ever it is off... but most are pretty spot on

The high cost of the birds just reminds me of the llamas and alpacas and the ratites when they first came to the US. People buying them to try and breed and sell for huge prices and make a fortune. I'll wait for anything I want. It will come down in price.

OK I JUST couldn't resist. I found Arnold on the Serama thread and just had to share.

now this pic just strikes my funny bone, one of the roosters from June, mr SUPER Serama...

Well, I figured out today why Rocky went crazy within the last week. Seems the girls were closer to maturity than I thought:

Yep – my first eggs!!! Woo hoo!!! So I get it now, but still think that Rocky has to go based on his behavior – unless through some miracle he settles down now that he’s getting what he wants. The good news is that he didn’t come after me today. The bad news is that I don’t trust him AT ALL and have to pack a tennis racquet and wear gloves whenever I go in. Oh, that, and I’m afraid to say Hi to the girls because it’ll likely set him off...

A 300 what??? There is a huge diff tween say a 300 savage (pretty mellow) and say a 300 winchester mag (pretty wild). Btw on a dare I shot a 300 win mag one handed, held at full extension. NOT something I would recommend for most. Has very good potential to break bones.

No kidding there !
We have a Win 70 that shoots 300 H & H Mags...that cannon can be heard for MILES !
Will knock you on your patootie if you are not ready!!!

Even with ear plugs and muffs on...my ears ring for hours.........

Dh says it is a 1949.....Uncle Ernie's favorite cannon.

Wether your hens are mature & laying or not has nothing to do with his bad behaviour.
Cockerels still get "what they want" even if the pullets are not quite laying yet.
But congrats on eggs!!!

Hey guys! Just checking in....been really busy....

Audrey is growing like a weed! Slept through the nights twice now this month (in the last two nights) and I gave her a pinch of brown rice cereal in her bottle, too. :) Here she is laughing!

DH started his master's degree (online) and between him having to do schoolwork 2-3 hours a night, Audrey, the farm in the middle of the winter and just life itself--it makes for not much BYC time!

I am still trying to thin my flock. No one seems interested in buying anything right now, though....quad of Sussex (light/split/coronation), a pair of MFC bantams, a pair of Houdan bantams and my flock of Crevecoeur.

I'm still looking for a bantam SLW roo, pair or trio. Decent (better-than-hatchery) quality stuff.

She is getting so Big!
